6.4 magnitude earthquake shakes Northern California


  • A 6.4 magnitude earthquake impacted Northern California’s Eureka area early Tuesday, according to the US Geological Survey, leaving at least two injured and thousands without power.

  • The quake, recorded at 2:34 a.m. PT, was centered in the Pacific just off the coast, about 7.5 miles from the Humboldt County city of Ferndale, the survey said.

  • Local authorities have warned residents to be ready for aftershocks as damage assessments continue.

  • There is no current tsunami threat associated with the quake, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
