After many years there has been an arrest in the Gilgo Beach Murders. Long Island, NY.
These have been unsolved murders for years. The suspect lives in a quiet neighborhood on the island. He is a 59-year-old architect who works in Manhattan.
The FBI was finally brought into this case and with their modern technology, they were able to use telephone records to zero in on the suspect.
Four of those murdered were sex workers and their murders had strong similarities. There are other unsolved murders but this suspect is arrested for only the four young women.
This is big. Whenever I went out to Jones Beach I would think of those murdered women.
Rex Heuermann, well-established architect with offices on 5th Avenue in Manhattan is the name of the suspect arrested in the Gilgo Beach Murders. There are several other unsolved murders that occurred here but he is arrested for only 4 as the evidence is so closely tied together.
Heuermann is a life-long resident of Massapequa, LI. He lived with his family in the house he grew up in, purchased from his parents. The house is in less than great condition.
I hope this will give some closure to the families of these women if Heuermann is indeed found guilty of these crimes.
And of course, we always want to know why…..

So far an arsenal of guns has been found in the home of Rex Heurrman, suspect in the Gilgo Beach murders on Long Island, NY.
This is a developing story. I have a feeling there will be morbid details to come. Very sad.

Family members of the Gilgo Beach serial killings suspect were shocked, disgusted and embarrassed when they learned about the crimes he is accused of committing, police say.“It’s a very good thing that we got this animal off the streets,” Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said in the news Monday night.
Rex Heuermann, an architect and father of two, was under 24-hour surveillance before he was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in three of the “Gilgo Four” slayings, according to the police commissioner.
He pleaded not guilty to the killings of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello and remains the prime suspect in the killing of a fourth victim, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, according to court documents.Though he has yet to be charged in the death of Brainard-Barnes, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said he is “confident” prosecutors will be able to bring a charge in that case.Heuermann obsessively followed the case of the Gilgo Four, a group of four women whose remains were uncovered more than a decade ago near Long Island’s Gilgo Beach, authorities say.
His internet history revealed at least 200 searches for information about the investigation, as well as compulsive searches for photos of the victims and their families, prosecutors say.
Heuermann’s family was shocked when investigators told them about the allegations against him, Harrison said. “They were disgusted. They were embarrassed,” the commissioner said. “So, if you ask me, I don’t believe they knew about this double life that Heuermann was living.”

In her more than 27 years of marriage to Rex Heuermann, Asa Ellerup likely did not know about the gruesome double life her husband is accused of living, Suffolk County’s top cop says.
“If you ask me, I don’t believe, that they knew about this double life that Mr. Heuermann was living,” Suffolk County police commissioner Rodney Harrison said of the suspect’s family. But authorities are not ruling anything out yet and are continuing to collect information “to see if the family might have known exactly what Mr. Heuermann was up to,” Harrison told CNN’s Erica Hill Monday.
Asa Ellerup has filed for divorce.
The investigation is now more far-reaching: Atlantic City, Las Vegas, and property in South Carolina are areas of concern, and sex workers who may have crossed paths with Heuermann are being interviewed.
Wife’s hair found with all three victims
When the victims were first discovered, there were pieces of degraded hair recovered by authorities – but DNA testing at the time could not provide the answers investigators hoped for.
Technological improvements soon helped yield results.
Hair that is now believed to belong to Ellerup – which presumably had been unintentionally carried by the suspect on his clothes – was found on or near the three victims, prosecutors alleged in the bail application, citing DNA testing.
That DNA came from 11 bottles inside a garbage can outside the Heuermann home, the court document says. Authorities had been surveilling Heuermann and his family for months after they identified him as a suspect in early 2022, and during that time collected DNA samples from items the family threw away.
Though her hair was found with the victims, Ellerup and their daughter were both traveling when the killings were committed and Heuermann was “alone in the tri-state area,” Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said during a Friday news conference. “It’s very significant in as much as it then limits it down to him,” criminal defense attorney Joey Jackson told CNN’s Jake Tapper about the finding. “If the suspect’s wife is out of town, then why would her hair be there if he’s in town?
”Suffolk County authorities say DNA evidence also linked Heuermann to a male hair found on the burlap sack where one victim’s remains were found.

Since the spring of this year, investigators looking into the Gilgo Beach serial killings case have been operating on the theory that the suspect, Rex Heuermann, committed the killings in his Massapequa Park, New York, home
.A source involved in the investigation said that the fact that the disappearances occurred during times his family was out of town suggests he may have lured victims to the Long Island home.
Investigators believe committing the killings at home would have given Heuermann control of the environment and access to materials that were found at the crime scene, including tape and burlap bags, the source said.

So the neighborhood of Massapequa Park is creeped out by the findings surrounding the Gilgo killings. Investigators have emptied out the suspect's house and there is major digging going on. Everyone feels this story may be more far-reaching than we know at this time.
Walk-in basement vault found in the backyard of Gilgo suspect, Rex Heuermann.

The family of Rex Heuermann has returned to their home in Massapequa Park, Long Island. Evidence has been gathered as they searched the house and dug up their yard. There’s speculation that he may have murdered in the house but nothing has been proven as yet either way.
Heuermann’s next court appearance is August 1.

August 1st: Rex Heuermann attended a 32-minute court hearing on Long Island today. Prosecutors presented evidence that will show that Heuermann is the killer of at least 3 of the victims found buried at Gilgo Beach. Heuermann's lawyers did not request a change of venue for the upcoming trial.
The family has returned to their house in Massapequa Park which has been so torn apart that a chair to sit on could barely be found. A Go Fund Me account has been started for the Heuermann family.
Heuermann is due back in court on Sept. 27.
