Tennessee Rep. Holt to give away AR-15 at fundraiser
One day after the worst mass shooting in American history, Rep. Andy Holt, is firmly standing behind his decision to give away a semi-automatic rifle similar to the one used in the Orlando shooting.
While announcing his plans last week to hold his first annual "Hog Fest and Turkey Shoot," Holt, R-Dresden, said he will give away an AR-15 as a door prize to an attendee of his June 25 fundraiser.
The event is also scheduled to include a turkey shoot — participants are encouraged to bring their own rifle and ammo.
Holt said despite Sunday's massacre in Orlando that left 50 people dead and 53 wounded, he remains stalwart in his belief that the weapon used in the mass shooting is not to blame.

What amazes me is that when we have an attack with planes we regulated the hell out of them by banning liquids, invading privacy, profiling, no fly lists, PATRIOT ACT, but we have a massacre by a crazy man & refuse to even consider regulating guns. Wtf is wrong with this country & ppls love of guns? They can just stop protecting the second amendment when they clearly ignore all others. Seems the constitution is a lot like the Bible & the same ppl who cherry pick the Bible also cherry pick the Constitution while pretending both are so important. Facepalm. They can also stop screaming about safety, because let's face it for many it is just an extension of their manhood(including some women). It isn't a tool of protection or hunting for many, it is simply part of their culture. That is America's gun problem! We are never honest when discussing this issue.

Having trouble posting, but the Lucas Brothers have a great "joke" called 'The Letter to the NRA'. Perfect.

I agree with you Vantro. We are never honest in discussing the issue of gun control under the second amendment. After the assault in Orlando do americans support the assault weapons ban? If not, they should. There is no valid reason to possess a semiautomatic assault weapon other than intent to cause mass destruction. Banning assault weapons is imo the right thing to do but should have no barring on my right under the second amendment to arm myself for protection. I need only one bullet to protect myself, not the bam bam bam from a semi automatic machine gun. Let's be honest in the discussion of gun control and the need for sensible gun control without denying our second amendment right.

A weekend celebrating America turned tragic for one family when a father shot his son at the High Noon Gun Range in Sarasota, Florida.
William Brumby was using the last shooting lane with a solid wall on his right-hand side when a spent shell ricocheted off of the wall and bounced into the back of his shirt. According to a WFLA report, that was when the man used his right hand, which was holding his loaded weapon, to remove the shell.
He recklessly pointed his firearm behind him and it accidently fired. The shot hit his 14-year-old-son, Stephen. He was rushed to Sarasota Memorial Hospital but died as a result of the injury.
Another good guy with a gun!!!

15 year old knocks at wrong house. Shot and killed by homeowner15-year-old boy shot in the abdomen Saturday has died and a 42-year-old homeowner has been arrested in his death.
Jeffery Lovell, 42, 120 Boucher Circle, has been charged with murder. He is being held in the Chicopee Police Department jail without right to bail, Michael Wilk, public information officer for the Chicopee Police Department, said.
Lovell is being accused of shooting the teenager through the door of his house at about 12:56 p.m., Saturday.
Police initially received a call of a breaking and entering into the home in the Fairview section of the city. When they arrived, they found the teenager on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, Wilk said.
"It was determined that three parties went to the residence believing it to be (the home of) a friend. One party, the victim, was banging on the outside door, when the homeowner shot through the door, striking the male," Wilk said.
Investigators found the victim and a friend were drinking alcohol at a nearby home. The two friends were confused while walking in the neighborhood and believed they had arrived at the home of another friend, said James Leydon, spokesman for Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni, said.
Lovell, the homeowner, tried to communicate with the victim, who was still knocking on the locked door, Leydon said.
"When a pane of glass broke, the suspect fired a single shot, striking the victim," Leydon said.

Funny how the gun nut repubs are afraid of open carry at their convention. Loomis, Cleveland police union president asked for a 3day suspension on the open carry law. So conserves & NRA think open carry is a right that must always be protected? Loomis advocated open carry & spoke in defense of the law, but now he wants to have our governor to break laws? I thought good guys with guns were the answer to bad guys with guns. Unbelievable.
