I think part of the reason Trump has been untouchable and able to spew lie after lie without any consequences is because Conservatives have maligned and belittled "The Media".  The "Trumpeters" have heard from  conservative media outlets and talk radio for so long that "you can't trust the media".  Now, the same media that is supposed to fact check and vet presidential candidates is so mistrusted by conservatives that they refuse to accept documented lies by Trump.
