The President nominates someone for a vacancy on the Court and the Senate votes to confirm the nominee, which requires a simple majority. In this way, both the Executive and Legislative Branches of the federal government have a voice in the composition of the Supreme Court.

The Constitution does not specify qualifications for Justices such as age, education, profession, or native-born citizenship. A Justice does not have to be a lawyer or a law school graduate, but all Justices have been trained in the law. Many of the 18th and 19th century Justices studied law under a mentor because there were few law schools in the country.

At the end of his first year he was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review based on his grades and a writing competition.

In February 1990, his second year at Harvard, he was elected president of the law review, a full-time volunteer position functioning as editor-in-chief and supervising the law review's staff of 80 editors.

From there, Obama moved on to the University of Chicag Law School ( he later taught there).
During his student days he worked as an associate at the law firms of Sidley & Austin in 1989, where he met his future wife, Michelle LaVaughn Robinson.

He graduated with a J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991 and returned to Chicago.

Now mind, Harvard is no Trump University, but it ain't exactly chopped "livuh" either.
