Among other votes on Monday, the GOP platform committee also cast at least a half-dozen votes that either
appproved language to amend a proposed platform from party staff to explicitly state support for "traditional marriage,"
or

- Rejected proposals that would have struck a more moderate tone on same-sex marriage. That included an amendment from Rachel Hoff, an openly gay GOP delegate from Washington, D.C., that would have inserted into the party platform an acknowledgment of "the diversity of opinion within our own party on the issue of marriage."

- Rejected a proposed amendment, from Maine State Sen. Eric Brakey, a Shaker Heights native, that would have expressed support for medical marijuana to be considered at the state level.

- Rejected a proposal that would have criticized "no fault divorce".- Rejected a proposal that would have stricken language supporting "encouraging state legislators to offer The Bible as a literature curriculum and elective" in high schools

.- Approved an amendment that opposed including prairie chickens and sage grouses on a federal list of endangered animals

- Called for requiring the federal government, before creating a national monument or park, to first get approval from Congress, as well as the legislature in the affected state.

The Republican Party is set to give a formal endorsement to the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border espoused by Donald Trump, solidifying it in the party's platform.Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach and Amy Carnevale of Massachusetts, both on the Republican National Convention Platform Committee, successfully petitioned to have the language in the draft platform given to delegates changed to include mention of a wall during subcommittee meetings Monday morning.

After saying securing borders is of the "highest priority," the new language makes clear the party seeks a wall.
