Unflipping Believable

This make me sick!
I don't know which is worse, the male cop manhandling the woman or the female cop doing nothing to stop him.

Re: Unflipping Believable

One thing we need to realize is that we are only seeing a small part of the full incident in these video clips.  I am pretty sure a cop is not going to grab someone and pin them up against the car in the middle of a busy city street for no reason.

And how do we know this is a woman vs a small statured man. Men African American men wear their hair like that.

Re: Unflipping Believable

]Washington D.C. police are investigating after an officer was seen on video lifting up a young woman and pressing her against a car.Video posted on Twitter by @MacandCheeks on Monday afternoon showed an unidentified male officer holding a pedestrian up against a police cruiser with her feet dangling in the air.

The poster said that police stopped at an intersection near Howard University and the officer immediately grabbed onto the young woman without speaking to her.

It is not immediately clear what words were exchanged afterward, though the woman protests that she works nearby.

Re: Unflipping Believable

FOX 5’s Bob Barnard spoke with the woman in the video who said she had done nothing wrong prior to being lifted by the officer. She told Barnard that she was involved in a verbal argument with a man, who she claimed was harassing another woman on the street. She believes that the responding officers perceived her as a threat which led to her being pinned against the vehicle

."It was harassment and I asked for the police officer's badge - they wouldn't give me no names, no numbers or nothing - so I left - I never knew this was being recorded."The woman was not arrested or charged. She gave FOX 5 her name but asked that she not identified.

The 45-second video posted at 3:48 p.m. on Monday  has been re-tweeted over 5,000 times. According to the Twitter user who posted the video, the incident happened on 7th and T Streets across from the Howard Theatre in Northwest D.C.

A D.C. police spokesperson said in a statement, "We've been made aware of this video and have contacted their commanding officer as we investigate this matter."

We'll just have to stay tuned.

Re: Unflipping Believable

I still think there is something being left out of this woman's story.  Why did he officer perceive her as a threat? How did she react when he approached her. I do not believe that an officer is going to just grab someone and pin them up against a vehicle for no reason whatsoever on a crowded city street like that one was.  Cops are acutely aware that their every move will be recorded and clips will be splashed all over social media and some news networks.  Nope I will not draw conclusion based on this womans story. I will wait for the rest of the story to come out.

Re: Unflipping Believable

Seriously? The woman was lifted? Look closely at the video, she has one foot off the ground while the other is firmly planted on the ground. Listen to the audio on the video, the woman said "I didn't have any drugs" and the officer replied "I never said you did". He never searched her on the video which says he was just trying to stop an altercation. The police were called to the scene because of an altercation, what is it that they should have done?? And what if you were the victim of an altercation?

Sorry Brave, but if you watch the video, you will see both of the woman's feet dangling.

Re: Unflipping Believable

Either way you look at it, it's harassment,' she says. 'I'm a schoolteacher, I work out here and I help these little girls all day, every day so there's no reason for you to assume that somebody out here doing the wrong thing.'Shadon later told Fox 5 that she and others at the bus stop were standing up to a man who was harassing another woman when the police intervened.'I never said nothing to the gentleman in particular,' Shadon says.'The police seen me talking aggressive to the man, telling him, "If you don't get out my face I'm going to react to you," so I guess they took that as a threat.'

Re: Unflipping Believable

She also said the officers didn't arrest her or serve her with a citation, and that they refused to give her their names or badge numbers.

Is that even legal?

Re: Unflipping Believable

Ok the photos you are showing after I posed the question shows she was woman. The photo in the OP didn't really make that evident which is why I asked.  I guarantee you there is something she left out in her interview.   People have a tendancy to leave the part of the story out when it will make themselves look bad. Remember when Michael Brown was killed and his friend said they were doing nothing but walking down the street when the officer shot and killed Michael Brown?  Then look how much the story changed as time went on. I am just saying you cannot go by that video or photo alone. Nor can you go by what she says happened. I won't jump to conclusions until I hear the whole story. I guarantee you that we don't know the whole story yet.

Re: Unflipping Believable

Question.
Why under any circumstance would a policeman feel a need to dangle a very petite woman up in the air?

Was she resisting arrest? Obviously not.

If the officer thought she was guilty of something, why wasn't she searched or charged?

Why did both officers refuse to identify themselves?

Re: Unflipping Believable

We have a serious issue with cops. Now by no means am I even saying they are bad, but the training & attitude need to change. They are there to uphold the law, but that does not mean they are above it. I believe training is a major factor, especially in larger cities. Then we have the distinct issue of bad cops. Whether they be unfit as in the case of Tamir Rice or arrogant as in the case of officer Brelo putting himself, innocent bystanders & his fellow police officers in deaths path.  Police have been given the benefit of the doubt simply because of their position & it is time to hold those in the field responsible for their actions. Dont even get me started on rape & women. just Google it. Respect goes both ways & everyone needs to check themselves right now. While there are major problems in police departments across the country we need to remember that there are men & women in the uniform that respect the job & ppl. Jmo

Re: Unflipping Believable

She could have gone crazy on him. Swinging, punching, kicking and he did that to bring her under control. I am always skeptical of these videos because almost always there ends up being way more to the story than we are being told. I am just withholding judgement until I know the whole story and not just what that short little clip shows.

Hello Dolly,

Why under any circumstance would a policeman feel a need to dangle a very petite woman up in the air?
Maybe to put her under control after responding to an assault call? Would you prefer he throw her to the ground (which he could have done)?

Was she resisting arrest? Obviously not.
Not obvious from the video

If the officer thought she was guilty of something, why wasn't she searched or charged?
The officer never said she was guilty of anything. He was responding to a call and investigating. He could have searched her but did not because he believed she was not guilty and did not charge her with anything. He was doing his job.

Why did both officers refuse to identify themselves?
You don't know that they didn't identify themselves. BTW, the officer's name is on their uniform for all to see.

Vantro,

We have serious issues everywhere today including with some police departments and you are right, better training particularly around community policing is needed. Many police departments are aware of this and are working hard to address it.

This is not the best of times for law enforcement and police are very cognizant of this. Most people agree that 'not all cops are bad' but can you imagine the impact this has on the 'good cops'? Would we be better off without our police? Personally, I would welcome this for the well being of my family. Then, we could move to Canada

Re: Unflipping Believable

Brave I feel for everyone in law enforcement right now. Even though ppl have a real argument with police unfortunately some feel they can take matters into their own hands & end up harming innocent officers. It is just sad all around. I just want to see the problems acknowledged & the community to channel their anger into demands for these problems to be solved. Work together. The community could also address some issues as well, but until police take the lead in those communities it won't happen imo.
