The day after the day after.
We can be angry, sad, fearful and horrified at the results of the election.
What we cannot do is sit back and live in apprehension. There is obviously a lot of work to be done.
There will have to be a new approach/methodology in how we work to protect those who have come under attack. Ignorance can be removed with edification and determination.
We do not know what this next presidency will look like. What we do know is that the extreme Conservatives have become the voice of the majority of those who did get out and vote.
There are young people protesting, as is their right but a large percentage of these people did NOT vote. They are mad, they wanted Bernie, and they didn’t like Hillary. And they do not understand the power of the vote. The power of actively working towards a goal and seeing it through until it is accomplished. These people need education and guidance to realize the goal.
There are ways that have proven to be effective to ensure that everybody has the rights that they are entitled to in this country.
If you believe that legislation is going to change the laws regarding rights we currently hold, then you must work to be sure that this does not happen.
Trump cannot do all that he has promised by himself. And to be honest, who knows where he really comes down on certain issues. He has been on the other side of the coin on most of the frightening rhetoric he spewed. The extreme right co-opted his campaign. They do have a proven agenda that is truly terrifying. They are going to try and revise legislation. We cannot let them.
So, yes we have a lot of work to do. How we do it, is on us. Each and everybody who dislikes the outcome of this election can no longer afford to be complacent. Hope and change is not gone. Yes we can is no longer just a past campaign slogan. It is required of us.

What a great thread NE!
I'm not there yet....they cheated and stole this election...I know it!
Hopefully, I will be able to get over this feeling....but it won't be anytime soon.
You are terrific to look at the bright side, I commend you!![]()

For me it is going to take more than a few days. I need to see where he takes us. What kind of decisions he makes before I can begin to feel better about him being president. The fact is he bred the fear many are feeling with his rhetoric and policy plans that he promoted during his campaign. I have seen conciliatory words from Obama, Hillary, and Biden but have not heard much from those on the right. The onus is on Trump to ease our fears and the right to foster conciliation. Haven't seen much of that yet.

As our immigrant parents and grandparents knew, education and character are the only things no one can take from you. These are the things I teach my children, even as I teach them how to negotiate histories and systems of power. As the day after Election Day progressed, I received emails from the university, the public schools, civil rights advocacy organizations, even my financial planner. Messages of solidarity, commitments to diversity. A candlelight vigil scheduled on campus for Wednesday night. Take care of each other. On Thursday, my class at the university is scheduled to discuss a film about the 1982 case of Vincent Chin, a 27-year-old Chinese-American man killed on the eve of his wedding after being struck in the head with a baseball bat by a white man who seemingly blamed the Japanese for the auto industry's economic woes. Ronald Ebens pleaded guilty to manslaughter, was fined $3,000, and never spent a night in jail.Ebens lives in Nevada now, still avoiding a financial judgment against him. A pivotal case in Asian-American history, I have taught this story so many times, each time hoping that it will finally become irrelevant. For college students, 1982 is ancient history, before they were born, but today the story of Vincent Chin gains a new urgency, and I am afraid. So I will tell my students what I told my son, what I tell myself, how we keep moving forward:We choose to be good people. We look out for our friends. We develop our values so we stand strong in what we believe.
