Donald Trump delivered a message about the impact violence by illegal immigrants and gangs like MS-13 have on American families in his first State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress.

"For decades, open borders have allowed drugs and gangs to pour into our most vulnerable communities," Trump said. "They have allowed millions of low-wage workers to compete for jobs and wages against the poorest Americans. Most tragically, they have caused the loss of many innocent lives."

Trump introduced the parents of two teenage girls who were murdered by members of MS-13 who were also illegal immigrants, they entered the country as "unaccompanied alien minors."

"Tonight, I am calling on the Congress to finally close the deadly loopholes that have allowed MS-13, and other criminals, to break into our country," Trump said. "We have proposed new legislation that will fix our immigration laws, and support our ICE and Border Patrol Agents, so that this cannot ever happen again."

"My duty, and the sacred duty of every elected official in this chamber, is to defend Americans — to protect their safety, their families, their communities, and their right to the American Dream. Because Americans are dreamers too," Trump said.

TAYLOR, Mich. (AP) — A man who fatally shot two workers at separate Detroit-area businesses and was possibly seeking a third was "on a planned killing spree," a local sheriff said Thursday.

Four students were injured in the shooting at Sal Castro Middle School, and two of them remain in the hospital. A 15-year-old boy was in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his temple and a 15-year-old girl is in fair condition with a gunshot wound to her left wrist.The shooting suspect, a 12-year-old girl, has been taken into custody.

The Las Vegas Massacre:

The massacre in Las Vegas killed 58 people and wounded 489 who were crowded together into one field, but those deaths have been felt across the entire continent.The Clark County Coroner released the names of all 58 victims on Thursday.

The list includes people from California to Massachusetts to the provinces of Canada.

They range in age from 20 to 67.

They were mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, grandparents and grandchildren.

They worked in hospitals, police stations, schools, day cares, restaurants and fishing boats.

They were at the Route 91 Harvest festival to celebrate birthdays, wedding anniversaries and a shared love of music.

(Trump used a politically delicate visit to Las Vegas in the wake of the deadliest mass shootings of modern times to praise the courage of victims and police on Wednesday, but flatly refused to engage in a wider discussion about gun violence. “We’re not going to talk about that today,” he said.)
