John McCain has passed away at the age of 81. He would have turned 82 on Wednesday. He was a true hero through and through, I may not have agreed with everything he did, but he cared about this country, unlike most who are serving in government today.

Condolences to his family and his many friends...

In a memoir published in May, McCain wrote that he hated to leave the world, but had no complaints.
"It's been quite a ride. I've known great passions, seen amazing wonders, fought in a war, and helped make peace," McCain wrote.
"I made a small place for myself in the story of America and the history of my times."

Here is the condolences statement issued by President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama:

"John McCain and I were members of different generations, came from completely different backgrounds, and competed at the highest level of politics. But we shared, for all our differences, a fidelity to something higher-the ideals for which generations of Americans and immigrants alike have fought, marched, and sacrificed.

We saw our political battles, even, as a privilege, something noble, an opportunity to serve as stewards of those high ideals at home, and to advance them around the world. We saw this country as a place where anything is possible - and citizenship as our patriotic obligation to ensure it forever remains that way.

"Few of us have been tested the way John once was, or required to show the kind of courage that he did. But all of us can aspire to the courage to put the greater good above our own. At John's best, he showed us what that means. And for that, we are all in his debt. Michelle and I send our heartfelt condolences to Cindy and their family."

Feeling sorrow for the death of a fine man. Senator McCain was a good man. This is a big loss for the country. I think he tried to be as fair as he could.

Today there are so many beautiful tributes to this hero....

I'm sure his family will love and miss him forever...they must be proud to have had him in their lives

This is a sad day for all Americans, no matter what your political affiliation. John McCain will be remembered as a true patriot and gentleman.

I remember at an October 2008 rally, then-presidential candidate John McCain had to take a microphone from a supporter, who was insulting candidate Obama and tell her that Barack Obama is "a decent, family man."

I gained a lot of respect for him on that day!

I agree!

McCain will lie in state in both the Arizona Capitol and the U.S. Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday and Friday, respectively, before his burial in Annapolis on Sunday. A true hero and a respectful good-bye that is well deserved!

(CNN)Sen. Lindsey Graham took to the Senate floor Tuesday to give an emotional farewell to his friend and colleague, Sen. John McCain.

"I have been dreading this," the South Carolina Republican said, wiping away tears. "And now I am going to do this."

"My name is Graham, not McCain," he said. "But I feel like a McCain. I don't know if I have earned that honor, but I feel like it."

Surrounded by a dozen members of the Senate from both sides of the aisle, Graham shared "a few dumb jokes told over and over" and talked of his trip to Vietnam when McCain returned to the Hanoi Hilton, his prison for five-and-a-half years.

Graham's remarks were the first of what will be many times he will speak honoring his friend this week.

Graham is scheduled to read scripture at McCain's service Saturday at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC, and will give a tribute Sunday in Annapolis, Maryland, at the Naval Academy service.

A motorcade carrying Sen. John McCain's body is on its way to the Arizona Capitol building.There will be a ceremony there honoring the late senator soon. After that, visitors will be able to pay their respects to McCain as he lies in state.

Today at the service to Honor John McCain...VP Joe Biden spoke about him ...and of what it meant to be his friend..his brother...

Former Vice President Joe Biden, speaking to mourners, said his relationship with Sen. John McCain was deeper than just colleagues on Capitol Hill."The way I look at it, the way I thought about it was that I always thought of John as a brother," Biden said.

"We had a hell of a lot of family fights. We go back a long way."Biden met McCain while working as a young senator. The two traveled together, talked about politics and shared ambitions, he said."All politics is personal. It's all about trust. I trusted John with my life and I would and I think he would trust me with his," Biden said.

It was especially touching when they played the song by Frank Sinatra.... "My Way" chosen by John McCain

The song at the end was heartbreaking. Both Democrats and Republicans loved him, that's the true sign of a politician that is doing his job "for the people."

Uh oh......James Mattis may be the next to go....He was filmed escorting Cindy McCain when at the airport to meet Senator McCain's plane as it arrived in D.C.

Today, McCain came home to the Senate one last time, becoming only the 31st person to lie in state in the US Capitol, a rare honor reserved for government officials and military officers. While minutes before the sun had shone over the dome, as McCain, carried by an honor guard, ascended the steps, the clouds opened and rain poured down.

Shortly before 11 a.m., McCain's body entered the Capitol Rotunda. They set the casket atop President Abraham Lincoln's catafalque, a wooden structure that has been used for decades for such services. McCain's former colleagues looked on.

I didn’t agree with his politics but he was a good man. May he Rest In Peace.
