Janet Jackson, the Weeknd, Shawn Mendes, Cardi B, Janelle Monae, and John Legend are slated to take the stage at the Global Citizen Festival.


The Global Citizen Festival began in 2012 as a way to encourage people to volunteer, spread social awareness, or do another social good to obtain a free concert ticket with A-list performers. Since then, it's earned $37 billion with the goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030. "We do this by encouraging people to learn and take action on our platform; those actions apply pressure on world leaders to make commitments around the issues associated with extreme poverty: gender equality, food security, education, the environment, global health, citizenship, and sanitation," read their description for their cause.

"We don't ask people for money, but to take action to end extreme poverty. These actions can be as simple as a tweet, signing a petition, making a phone call, or sending an email."
