This is Us
Heartbreaking scenes from the Vietnam War....I have many memories of that war and the fallout it caused here at home. There was so much going on then.....so many demonstrations.....Civil Rights....Kent State where four college students were killed by the National Guard ...a President resigning in shame....Black Panthers....My Lai Massacre.
New Haven, CT, normally a college town became a battle field between students and the National Guard, many of them from the same age group. College campuses housed army tanks in open fields or they were hidden behind beautiful wrought iron gates on courtyard grounds among ivy covered buildings.
With all that, there was never the fear that all was lost...like now.

I haven't watched this episode but I know exactly what you're saying. I remember those times. I was in high school and college at the time. There were awful things happening in this country--and in the world. But we had such hope. We thought we could change the world...and we did. I realize I'm much older now, and of course may have lost some of that youthful optimism. I just don't see that today's young people have the hope that we had. The world is at their fingertips and so much good can be done!
