For example Texans tend to be very paranoid and they buy into all the fear mongering done by the far right.
Need, this sounds like an awful broad brush to me. I only know of two posters from the VMB that are from Texas and neither one of them seem determined that Obama is going to destroy this country.
So some of the citizens of a city in Texas falls for an internet story and goes a little crazy so the whole state is paranoid, fear mongering and hate Obama?

I think there are more than two people from Texas on the other boards. Like I said it doesn't apply to all Texans. I do think there is much paranoia there though. Even their politicians feed into it. When all the fear boiled up about the military exercises both Cruz and the Governor wouldn't come out and tell their people there wasn't anything to fear instead they played on the fears.

Point taken. I do know that not everyone in the state believed that.

Considering what Texas has done to their public schools, especially their rewriting of history & text books, I tend to believe that there is more than a kernel of truth to needs post. Texans are very different from much of the country & they are proud of it. I would never fit into Texas & I am proud of that. Although I will say that there some great towns & ppl in Texas, but overall Texas deserves it's reputation.

Yes, we must keep an eye on those toothless people. Not sure if the toothless are only in TX but I do know that 3 Texans dragged an African American man from behind their pick up truck in the 1999 racially motivated murder of James Byrd Jr. "JASPER, Texas — After they dumped his body in front of an African American cemetery they went to a barbecue.
I will never forget this.

I am 56. I have lots of relatives in Texas in both Austin and Houston. The Houston side is positive Obama is trying to take their guns and all the good guys with guns will take care of that bad guy with a gun. I only visit the Austin side of the family.

Here are some reasons why Texas has a lot to answer for.
1: Texas has the most restrictive voter ID law in the country
-Of the various types of ID that can be shown to vote, concealed weapon permits are fine, but college IDs are not
.2: Texas requires every political candidate to believe in God
- Article 1, Section 4, in the Texas Constitution states: “No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being.”
3: Texas prohibits qualified residents from receiving federally approved Medicaid expansion
-1 in 4 Texans has no health insurance
4: Texas textbooks distort history
-According to The Washington Post, ideas promoted in Texas textbooks: “Moses and Solomon inspired American democracy, that in the era of segregation only “sometimes” were schools for black children “lower in quality” and that Jews view Jesus Christ as an important prophet.
5: Texas fought the Supreme Court to keep anti-sodomy laws on the books
-Still arrested people of the opposite sex for engaging in sex acts as recently as 1998.
6: Texas arrests and prosecutes more of its citizens for pot related offenses than any other state in the country
-
Half of all arrests in Texas are for marijuana related offenses. As alternet points out: “In 2009, more than 97 percent of all Texas marijuana arrests — over 77,000 people — were for possession only. Those convicted face up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine, even upon a first conviction.
AND LAST BUT BY FAR NOT THE LEAST....
7. Texas has some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country. -
It took a 2014 Supreme Court ruling to keep most Texas abortion clinics from closing down completely. If the Texas law had been allowed to stand, all but eight of the state’s abortion clinics would have been closed. Abortion providers told the NYT: “The regulations were expensive, unnecessary and a ruse meant to put many of them out of business.”
Not such a broad brush after all.

As a bonafide born and raised NYer who lived in Austin for many years-its is the ONLY city in the state that is safe to be in But that was 10 years ago..so I don't know how it is now
Also on the textbooks? I worked in the educational publishing world when I lived in Austin-major publisher and we could see the writing on the wall regarding the regional textbooks-so I left

Oh yes. They have been singing this tune for many years. Subtle changes in text books started happening years ago.
This young man is young...28.... Still in school and teaching at Univ of Tx. Academia is a protected world so I am not sure if his view of Austin is accurate or not. My daughter visited and she says it's a pretty liberal city. But my daughter always sees the best side of everything. Drives me nuts. She said they have a beautiful river walk, good music, and especially good barbecue. (but she's a vegan)

Your daughter is right-its liberal (then again liberal is subjective in Texas) LOL The music scene was awesome when I was there-I hear its gone too big now. Very artsy city. River is interesting-not like our rivers by any means-they have Bats if you like them LOL The UT campus is so huge that it commands the culture. Stark contrast to the capital grounds especailly since I was there where George was running for President. Hippies ran amuck, Yuppies invaded, Hipsters rule now. Always good BBQ (not a vegan)
