Pho Keene Great, a pun on the Vietnamese dish pho (pronounced “fuh”) and the name of the town, is scheduled to open in March; however, Fox News reports that City Manager Elizabeth Dragon said the owner, Isabelle Jolie, never received permission to hang the sign outside the restaurant. “City manager has deemed our business name as offensive and a permanent sign with our business name, will not be allowed. The one that is pictured, is a temporary sign, and it was requested that we take it down due to her opinion that it is offensive name and a contract violation as it relates to City ordinance,” the restaurant’s social media post read.
Jolie agreed to remove the temporary sign. The restaurant polled users and found that 3,400 found the sign to be not offensive, while 117 voted that it was offensive.
This is pretty outrageous, IMO. What they are saying is that the name, because it's in a foreign language, is offensive. Wow....that's offensive. Am I crazy? Ok. It's the middle of the night.....got up to use the powder room...made the mistake of getting on the computer....so here it is....

We have one near me.....called Pho Restaurant (fuh) and the food is wonderful. Also it's a place vegans can sit down and eat with meat eaters!

I think it's funny, but I don't think the owner's as innocent as they're pretending, I think they know exactly what they were going for, attention. We had a local that went to a town on the Canadian border and opened a salon she called "The Border Hair House," knowing this woman as well as we do, we all knew exactly what she meant to imply with the name. The salon was only in business for a couple of years. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. lol

I think it's a really creative, fun name but I can see how some who pronounce it correctly will find it offensive. And I see it's right next door to city hall! too bad, I like the name. There were a few creatively named creperies near me--the only one I can think of right now is Full of Crepe. And I think one was And All That Crepe.
