The education secretary, Betsy DeVos, was grilled by House Democrats on Tuesday over her latest budget proposal. It boosts money for charter schools and slashes $17.6 million in funding for Special Olympics. DeVos's proposal cuts the education budget by $7 billion, while at the same time raising charter funding by $60 million. 272,000 kids will be affected by the cut. "Let me just say that I think Special Olympics is an awesome organization, one that is well supported by the philanthropic sector," DeVos said during questioning. I think it's pretty clear what she thinks of Special Olympics, it doesn't seem to be one of her top priorities.

Oh Betsy......you are so incompetent. Why am I not surprised that this simpleton would choose to funnel money in to charter schools and take funding away from the Special Olympics. I could go on a rant about what I think about charter schools and the people who work there, but I'll leave it at that.

I just want to make it clear to everyone that Charter schools are not religious schools. I had a huge argument with someone about that. That being said, thirty years ago when charter schools began I thought they were a good idea. They supposedly would not drain any money from the public schools. When children switched from the public school to the charter, it wouldn't cost the tax payers anything more. No additional teachers would need to be hired, they would just shift around to the charters. The money would follow the child. But that is not what has happened. There are charter schools springing up everywhere each with its own slight spin. While I like what some of them offer, I think there must be a better way. It's basically sending your child to private school at the tax payer's expense.

And look into the people who work for the Charter Schools.....admin people. They are all making over $100,000 per year and many of them do next to nothing.....at least in NYC.
