Good Morning October 26th

Good Morning everyone.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  The weather here was chilly in the mornings but warmed up in the afternoon. So nice to have the windows open again.

I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Re: Good Morning October 26th

Good morning! It is chilly this morning but the sun is out. Should be a beautiful autumn afternoon.

Got the boots and coats for the kids this weekend. That was a lot of fun...trying on footwear with 3 kids under 6, AFTER they're full of pancakes and syrup. I don't recommend trying it sober.

I have decided that our master bedroom needs some sprucing up. I painted it in a really cool silver shade two years ago, but it's starting to look kind of old. And I saw a beautiful duvet cover in red and black...so I'm going out to look at paint and get some decorating ideas.

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

I hope you had a great weekend in the Big D. Mine was fun. Hard to believe winter is around the corner.

Re: Good Morning October 26th

Good morning everybody, I hope all is well with you and yours.
The weather here in southwest La (Sowela, for short) is that if finally stopped raining, the remnents of the hurricane are gone and good riddence. It doesn't look too much like the sun wants to come out and play but then maybe it just wants to enjoy a long weekend, who knows for sure? Temps are moderate, breeze is light and the day trudges on.

Boot shopping with 3 under 6? You could always use the trick I used with the twins I used to sit for. Anytime I wanted them to do something specific, I would command them to do the opposite. In you situation, they would hear, "I don't want to see any of you trying on boots in your own size." To which, they would instantly scramble to do just that. Good luck with that, I'm not sure if it would work as well for three as it did for two.

Hahaha! I like that idea MamaSqu. Reverse psychology still works on my son but my daughter has caught on already. The little one just started walking so it's just a matter of keeping her from wandering off and trying to eat the slipper section.

Good morning good people!  Great threaad this morning. Beautiful in NY, dry and sunny.
Sam, more coffee, more cooffee. Lol.
Shiny.....I found a beautiful paint at home depot, Behr paint. "Butter Cookie".  I have it in more than one room. It's got a lot of yellow but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Others have stolen it from me. Lol. When you talk about your kids I miss having little people around more but you make me visit my granddaughter more often. Please keep the stories coming.
Snap..... love reading your stories too and thanks for posting about Chris Christie! Lol.
Spunky.....thanks for the quote. It is encouraging and a good reminder for everyday.
Mama..... It's so nice to hear about anywhere and anything in LA.  I want to get back there one day because it is so rich in history.
Have a wonderful day, all!

Seven and eleven? Dear Lord in Heaven, please tell me they are both girls. At least with girls you get an unending fashion show, with boys no matter what you pick up, they don't like it. I love my son but I hated taking him clothes shopping....wait, he's 33 now and I still won't go shopping for clothes with him.

Come on back for a visit anytime. Louisiana misses you too. The best time to vacation in Sowela is the two weeks before Mother's Day, when we have Contraband Days festivities going on in Lake Charles and the surrounding area. Lots of fun, music, food, games, did I mention food? Come one, come all.

Re: Good Morning October 26th

Louisiana is on my bucket list too. I would love to go to New Orleans some day. Maybe not during Mardi Gras but during the summer one year. There's so much culture, music and great food. My hubby is a huge fan of the blues so he'd love every minute of it.

I have only been to New Orleans so I have to look at the map for Sowela. Contraband Days? I have to look that up.

Shiny, where do you live? Have you ever been someplace geographically listed as 'subtropical' before?
We have two seasons here : 1.) Hot & wet 2) Cold & wet. There is not much in between here. Louisiana is the only place I have ever been that has a feature on the morning news in virtually every local news station that renders a tiny portion of the weather report each day to "The Frizz Factor" (Just how much humidity is going to be handed to us by Mother Nature that day)
I dare say that if you aren't extreme acclimated to the weather here.....Summer might leave you with a really bad impression of our state.

Let's try to go at this from a slightly different direction. If you were into gardening (and I hope you are) you will follow my next train of thought quite easily. Where most of the U.S. might start their grass cutting season in late April, early May, here in Sowela our grasscutting season starts in March and ends in December. That is one long, hot season, and most of it is uncomfortable and humid. Air conditioning is not a luxury here, it is a necessity. The best time to see this state and all it has to offer is based on what seasonal food you would like to experience. A venture to the La.Tourist website gives a fairly open run down of all the festivals around the state and the foodie fare offered therein. I would venture to say avoid the area from mid July to the end of August, because 100° temps in the shade when you can't find any shade is more than moderately uncomfortable, it's just dangerous. Outside of that, come by, visit, stay as long as you like and be adventurous with your food choices. (Note: alligator is delicious)

Re: Good Morning October 26th

Zeke, New Orleans is probably the best known city in this state but I dare say it's not the best one to see what this state has to offer, granted that is my personal opinion. Lake Charles is less than 30 miles from the Texas/Louisiana state line, straight line on Interstate 10, opposite side of the state from N.O.. Of all the best cities to visit in this state, my top ten favorites are (in no particular order)
1. Lake Charles
2. Lafayette
3. Ruston
4. Alexandria
5. Opelousas
6. Baton Rouge
7. Rayne
8. Leesville (Fort Polk area)
9. Shreveport (Barksdale A.F.base)
10. Avery Island (home of Tabasco)

Enjoy.

I really appreciate this info. I will definitely avoid it in the 'summer' months. I'm a Canadian girl and I can adapt to heat or cold but if I had my preference I'd rather avoid heat and humidity. I think we'd be there mostly for the music and the food, so pretty much anytime other than July and August?
