Re: Good Morning October 26th

Exactly, Shiny. Those two months are the hottest here, much like I wouldn't go to Las Vegas in August ever again. There the problem is a dry heat, and trust me, you can not possibly consume enough water in a single day's time to make being there in August comfortable. I went through an entire tube of body lotion in 5 days in Vegas back in August of '98. I thought I was going to wither and crumble. Just miserable heat, for someone who worked the road crew for the highway department for ten and a half years, here in Sowela. Not a pretty picture. If you like eating seafood, just about anytime is fine here. Crawfish season starts in December and runs through the Fourth of July, into late July-ish. Alligator season is winter time. Catfish is best from March through August. While most other forms of seafood are year round.

There is also frog season, rabbit season, squirrel season, deer season, duck season, and my favorite....
tourist season.

Zeke, New Orleans is probably the best known city in this state but I dare say it's not the best one to see what this state has to offer, granted that is my personal opinion. Lake Charles is less than 30 miles from the Texas/Louisiana state line, straight line on Interstate 10, opposite side of the state from N.O.. Of all the best cities to visit in this state, my top ten favorites are (in no particular order)
1. Lake Charles
2. Lafayette
3. Ruston
4. Alexandria
5. Opelousas
6. Baton Rouge
7. Rayne
8. Leesville (Fort Polk area)
9. Shreveport (Barksdale A.F.base)
10. Avery Island (home of Tabasco)

Enjoy.

I would have to include Natchitoches on that list.  I am from East Texas, so I am very familiar with Louisiana.  I am in Shreveport, very often.  I am in fact, going this week.

I love Lafayette.   Every time I travel by car to New Orleans, I can't wait until I can pick up the French speaking radio station around Lafayette.   I haven't spent very much time in Lake Charles, but it is nice. I love the accents of the New Iberia area.

New Orleans is my "Special Place".  I just "sink"into that city so well.  I may not literally participate in all the public dispays, but I sure encourage them.  This year I have to miss it, but almost every year I rent a 2nd floor balcony at the Inn on Bourbon for Halloween.  Halloween in New Orleans - perfect.
