Peeps’ Parent Company Temporarily Halts Production Due to Virus

The Coronavirus pandemic has decimated the restaurant industry, put extra stress on grocery stores, and forced every responsible person who hopes to spend any time outside this summer to shelter in place. In a new and perhaps inevitable development, COVID-19 is also coming for our Easter candy.

In a responsible move that mimics the new, difficult status quo, Just Born, the candy company responsible for Peeps, announced it would suspend production in its two Pennsylvania factories in response to the ongoing public health crisis.

The shutdown at facilities in Bethlehem and Philadelphia will last through at least April 7, according to a company statement. During the interim period, Just Born “will take this opportunity to further clean and sanitize our production facilities, offices and corporate headquarters.”

Have no fear, Spunky, they are planning on reopening May 4.  This a local company here.  Between their two locations, Bethlehem and Philadelphia, they employ 500 people.  During this pandemic, they have donated 15,000 pairs of gloves, 120 N95 masks, and candy to area hospitals.

and just FYI, they drop a giant peep on New Years Eve...

One of my favorites.  I had a couple of packages I was saving for when I got the urge for something sweet, unfortunately I waited too long, they were hard as rocks.
