Your Crazy FOX Addicted Relatives

The holidays are just around the corner.

Chances are many of us will have to suffer through the rantings of a crazy relative (usually a hard of hearing uncle who fought in the big one) when all we want to do is enjoy our green bean casserole in relative peace.

Here's and old saw you're likely to hear.

"Obama pulled our troops out of Iraq too soon."

Luckily, Chris Matthews has a retort to shut the old geezer up.

Matthews: "How long is long enough? If it didn't happen in 13 years, how long is long enough?"

Usual geezer answer: "How long did we leave troops in GERMANY and JAPAN after WWII?"

The retort....
First, thank him for his service and then in a calm but firm voice accompanied by a big smile (after all it is a holiday) say:

We didn't leave troops there to keep the GERMANS and the JAPANESE from fighting each other, or continuing to fight us. They were left there to deter the Soviet Union.

Re: Your Crazy FOX Addicted Relatives

I'm looking forward to the War On Christmas interactive map with all the "hotspots" of discrimination against the poor down-trodden Christians.

I'll also enjoy the discussion about how only Christians should be allowed in the country, no Jews. Oh wait, I'm mixing up my holocausts again. Make that only Christians and Jews, no Muslims.

Re: Your Crazy FOX Addicted Relatives

I have a few of those relatives!  What has having the most troops in harm's way, spending the most money, being the big cheese in every situation ever gotten us except more enemies?  Why do we have to be the cops of the world?  The right is always stomping their feet saying we're the best at everything, we need to be the biggest and the most powerful, it hasn't kept us safe.  We need to work together with the rest of the world against ISIS, that's the only way to defeat them, but let others take the lead for a change.  The Republicans would have us sticking our noses in and trying to run every country if they could, it hasn't been working for us against this kind of enemy.  ISIS wants our troops on the ground, there's nothing they'd like better than to be holding one of our soldiers hostage and then beheading them, it's what they want, it's the image they want.  Being the all powerful didn't help us under Bush, maybe it's time to try a different strategy, working together with the rest of the world instead of trying to run everything ourselves.  I'm sick of always having the most troops and spending the most money, everyone needs to step up and put as much effort into fighting this evil as we do.  We are not in charge of the whole world regardless of what the right wants to believe.

Wow, great post teulog.

In Canada, Trudeau has pulled our fighter jets out of Syria and is focused on bolstering support for the humanitarian aid in the countries around the crisis, and in taking 25000 refugees this month. I am much happier to have us out of the fight in the ME and just offering supportive roles for the damage.

We cannot change what is happening in the ME. Years and years of war and military strategy with the help of most of our allies has done absolutely nothing to thwart terrorism, and in fact has made it worse. It's time for us to offer haven to those who make it out alive and seek refuge, and the best way to do that is to help our allies in the ME with money and supplies to help as many people survive as possible.

/end rant

Fantastic post teluog!

All the lives lost, all the money spent & the ME is still fighting.  It never ends.

We are not the worlds police. Working together with the rest of the world is the only way.

Re: Your Crazy FOX Addicted Relatives

I agree teluog!  I am so tired of our young men and women...getting slaughtered, maimed ...We should fight the fight with NO boots on the ground....and as a United front with others united with us to destroy those monsters, that care nothing about living and just relish death and destruction.

Re: Your Crazy FOX Addicted Relatives

I wonder if it's possible that extremists will just take over most of the ME and bomb eachother till the end of time. That seems to be the way it's going, and if so, shouldn't we just be the hell out of there and securing our own borders, strenghtening homeland security, helping our allies to do the same, and uniting with the rest of the world to shelter refugees who flee our mutual enemy?
