Obama's brand of diplomacy works again

Four prisoners being held in Iran have reportedly been released. It is widely speculated that this was part of the nuke deal with Iran, but was kept quiet to allow Iran to save face during the negotiations.

This is going to be a serious blow for the right. The spin machine looks like the Teacups ride at Disneyland right now.

Re: Obama's brand of diplomacy works again

It's going to be a rough weekend for a lot of people.  Has Trump taken credit yet?  Just heard Cruz making his comment, he tried to make it sound like he was halfway happy about it, but has to hear how bad the deal was first.  The right will be furious, unlike the whole "guns for hostages" scenario Reagan came up with, we released seven people and gave them access to some of their own money, that's what I've heard.  Can't wait to hear the Republican spin on this, can't give the President any credit for anything.  You think the President will put on a little outfit and fly a jet onto an aircraft carrier to announce this news, no, he'll do it in his own understated way with the dignity he always shows.  He's only got a year left, I hope he can continue to show the Republicans what a real leader looks like.  Fox must be working over time to make sure the clueless get as much misinformation as possible.

Re: Obama's brand of diplomacy works again

The right has been screaming bloody murder for their release and now we won't hear one positive thing about it. They'll say he gave up too much, or that it was Obama's fault that they were jailed in the first place. They've got to keep up the fear mongering and the "Obama is the devil" rhetoric because it's all they have.

Its funny how being diplomatic with Iran seems to be working out fantastically. Just last week I read a article about Iran filling a major reactor with concrete despite all the bitching about how the deal is SOOOOO terrible. Then the whole thing with the navy sailors, the GOP jumped the gun on bitching about the president not talking about the sailors who were captured and then the next morning they were all released. Now, the US prisoners everybody was bitching about not being in the Iran deal get released hours before the deal goes into effect. Obama and Kerry are playing nice with Iran and they seem to be moving in that direction as well. Yeah they captured a few sailors for a day or two but they ended up being stranded in their waters so they had the right to hold them. They weren't abused or anything like that and they were promptly released. This is how diplomacy works and the people on the right who have done nothing but bitch and fear monger over this deal needs to give it a rest.

This is working despite the gop screaming this would never work and it would be a total disaster. It's amazing what can be accomplished when you approach another country with respect and diplomacy instead of just threatening them constantly.

Re: Obama's brand of diplomacy works again

Just heard Jeb Bush give his opinion, he actually said he would have told Iran to release the hostages or we'll drop a bomb on you!  Here I thought he was slightly smarter than his brother, wrong.  Take a look people, this is what we'll have if the Republicans take back the White House, unending war.  If they'd been in charge for the last seven years, can you imagine how many countries we'd have troops in, fighting. They say they support our troops, but they just want them to do their dirty work in countries they want to control.

Re: Obama's brand of diplomacy works again

And it has just been reported that a fifth person has been released!

According to CNN:

A fifth American, Matthew Trevithick, is being released by Iran, but his release is not part of the negotiated prison swap, U.S. officials said Saturday. Senior U.S. administration officials described Trevithick as a student who was recently detained in Iran. "He has been allowed to leave Iran.

So, that is an additional individual who was not a part of this negotiation given how longstanding the negotiation was, but we did indicate to Foreign Minister Zarif that it'd be important for them to try to resolve some of the other cases of Americans detained in the context of this. And Matthew's case was able to be resolved and he is on his way home," one of the senior administration officials told CNN.

So happy for their families, that they will get to reunite with their loved ones!

Thanks President Obama!!

Re: Obama's brand of diplomacy works again

Funny that Rubio and Jeb are saying we should never have negotiated with them...but they were pushing for it to be part of the nuke deal. LOL. Do they hear themselves?

I laugh so hard when I see some of the conservative commentators saying that the US is giving IRAN millions of dollars. Clearly not aware that it is Iran's money that the US was holding during sanctions. Honestly, explaining this stuff to them must be exhausting. No wonder Fox News breaks it down to soundbites they play over and over again. It works better than resorting to crayons, cartoons and pop up books.

Schoolhouse Rock needs to make a comeback for these people!

Re: Obama's brand of diplomacy works again

So happy for the hostages and their families!

I agree with you Shiny, Teulog & Spunky,  Diplomacy works!!!   Who knew.
Well, our President did, that's who!

Thanks to President Obama and our S. of S. John Kerry for believing in the power of diplomacy.  This is exactly how to support our troops! No need to put them in harms way when we can work it out with words.

This is a great day for America! Actually it is a great day for the world. Using peaceful negotiation rather than military action is what is best for the world
I can not even imagine the outcome if a certain were President & this were going on.
