I think Carson's illness was hereditary hand tremors. Tom was getting friendly with the woman who was working for Edith in London. Think I got it right, not sure of all their names.

I was very pleased with how it ended!

Sorry I missed this thread, but I did want to say... How much I loved this show, and I'm so sad we will no loner be seeing more episodes. But, I also loved how the show ended. It was so good to see Edith had her happy ending and found the man of her dreams, as well as Lady Mary. It was also nice to see these two sisters come together and support one another. This was such a well written series, and I wish it could of been on for a few more seasons. Not sure about everyone else, but at first, my favorite character in the beginning was Mr. Carson, but during the last season, I didn't like the way Carson had treated Thomas (Mr. Barrows). In the end, I actually grew quite fond of Mr. Barrows, and he became my favorite character! Sure, at first Thomas was such a conniving jerk, but in later episodes, he changed into a better person, and I loved how he loved the children; especially Master George, and the friendships he had between Jimmy and Mrs. Baxter. In the last season, I especially loved the seen between him and Mr. Bates, just before Thomas left briefly to work for another family, and the kind words both men exchanged and they shook hands, it actually made me tear up. In the end. I am so glad I can still enjoy watching episodes of this great show on dvd's, and enjoy watching re-runs on Wisconsin Public Television. I never get tired of the re-runs!

Hello DG.
Mr. Barrow was also one of my favorites. I didn't watch DA from the beginning so I might make some errors in judgment about the characters. I wonder if Mr. Barrow was acting out of hurt in the earlier episodes. His life had to be hard and fearful...having to hide his sexuality and always mindful that he would be exposed. And in England homosexuality was a criminal offense. (I learned that from the show)
Wish we could have an American version of DA. Why not?

Zeke, we do have an American version, it's called a soap opera, but no American soap opera can compare to Downton Abbey.
Downton Abbey is so much better than any American soap opera!

Right. There are only 4 soaps left on TV. Think I will do some letter writing. Maybe the soaps can save themselves if they take a lesson from DA writers.
Ever watch Keeping up Appearances? Hillarious!

Zeke, the only soap I watch is... The Young & The Restless. My favorite soap since I was a teenager though, was... All My Children, until the last year before it was cancelled. And my favorite actor on that show was... Michael E. Knight (aka Thad Martin). My least favorite was... Susan Lucci.
As far as Keeping Up Appearances... I love this show! My favorite actors on the show is Onslow (Geoffrey Hughes) and Daisy (Judy Cornwell).

Back in the 80's our local channel carried the British soap "Coronation Street".
I used to get quite a kick out of it.

Hey DG.....
I admit to watching the Bold and Beautiful lately. Wish they would get past the love triangle thing. They almost made it when they did a storyline with a transgender character and now they are going back to the same love triangles.
Keeping Up Appearances.....just love Hyacinth and Onslow (great name). Is there a little Hyacinth in all of us? Lol.
Never got the chance to watch Coronation Street though....
