On Wednesday, one day after the New York Observer endorsed Donald Trump, the paper’s national political reporter, Ross Barkan, announced that he would leave the paper.
“[The endorsement] played a factor,” he said. “It was a decision I’ve been wrestling with for more than a day and more than a week. I didn’t expect [the endorsement] was coming. It blindsided me."
Barkan said that he was particularly troubled by Observer editor in chief Ken Kurson’s decision to help Kushner (Trump's son-in-law) write Trump’s March 21 speech to AIPAC.
“The AIPAC situation was very troubling. Anyone knows that an editor in chief should not be reviewing the speech of a presidential candidate. I don’t care if it’s Trump or Bernie Sanders,” he said.
