Top GOP Benghazi Investigator Debunks Conservative Myths: Nothing ‘Could Have Been Done Differently’.
A former three-star general who served as the Republicans’ chief counsel on the Benghazi Select Committee repeatedly acknowledged as he interviewed witnesses during the committee’s investigation that nothing “could have been done differently to affect the outcome in Benghazi.”.
Lt. Gen. Dana K. Chipman was the senior military lawyer for the Army for four years as judge advocate general at the Pentagon, Gowdy's office said. He retired last November after 33 years on active duty.
Here's Gowdy's announcement when he selected the general as chief counsel:
"...the new chief counsel is someone with character and integrity, along with solid legal credentials, who as "dedicated his professional life to the apolitical service to our country and reached the highest levels of his profession."
Gowdy added, "If you are serious about conducting a fair, thorough, fact-centric investigation devoid of gratuitous partisanship, it stands to reason you would select someone with those same characteristics to lead the investigation."
These statements undermine one of the GOP’s most heavily recycled — and completely unfounded — talking points about the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound and CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya, which killed four Americans. Republicans have repeatedly and baselessly claimed that President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton ordered the military to "stand down" and not respond to the attacks.

Trey Gowdy Accidentally Admits Hillary Clinton Didn’t Benghazi Anyone
FOX News Personality:
There’s a report that’s floating out there that says that your attorney, General Dana Chipman, said from the beginning that nothing could be done to save the four Americans in Benghazi in September of 2012. Is that true?
GOWDY: Uh? No, sir, Dana Chipman is an honorable good man, he served this country with great distinction, and he served our committee with great distinction. That was a transcript of one question he asked Leon Panetta and Jeremy Bash. When you see the full transcript, AND YOU WILL, then you will see what Dana was talkin’ about was a very small point.
The posture of the troops, the order that was given by Panetta and the president, how that order was received. All of that is what we wanna ask people about. Whether or not they could’ve gotten there in time, I don’t think there’s any issue with respect to that. They couldn’t. The next question is why could you not? Why were you not positioned to do it?
