United Shades of America

Has anyone seen the CNN series, United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell?

Kamau explores the far corners of our country and its various groups and subcultures. Kamau does an amazing unbiased job as he explores 'The New KKK', 'Behind the Walls of San Quentin', 'Latino USA' 'Protect and Serve?' and 'Off the Grid'. He even explores life inside a 'tiny house'.

If you have watched this series I would be interested in your thoughts. If you have not this is a must see!

Re: United Shades of America

Sorry Braveone.....I am not a big watcher of CNN. Didn't know about the series.
I am watching Roots. This new version is better than the first although difficult to watch at times. I didn't want to watch Underground because the slave story saddens me now. But I was curious about the new Roots. Interesting Levar Burton is one of the producers.

Hi zeke,

I recored Roots but have not watched it yet. I read what the critics wrote about the new Roots and I am looking forward to watching it. Would love to chat with you about it after we watch.

Although you are not a big fan of CNN (neither am I) you should take a look at United Shades of America even if for just one episode. I promise you will not be disappointed. I am a fan of W. Kamau Bell and learned about this series from his newsletter. It is one of the best docu series I have seen.

Re: United Shades of America

I will check it out. I may have seen him on the View (tuned in on the middle) if that is the series you are talking about I will watch. Sounds good.
Let me know when you have finished Roots.

He was a guest on The View this week but only for a short amount of time.
Kamau is a talented stand up comic best known as the host of the former series Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell and perhaps the most unlikely choice to host a docu series by CNN.

Kudos to CNN, Kamau is the perfect host for United Shades of America. He travels America and dives into issues such as racism, incarceration and more. He often puts himself in compromising positions to tell the story and doesn't always hide his disdain but manages to tell the story nonetheless without bias.

I know I sound like an ad for  United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell but it really is a must see imo. Very surprised that no posters have responded, except for my friend zeke

I highly recommend this series and would like to talk about it should anyone watch.
