My Rage!

Please bear with me as I rage. My SO is out there doing his best to protect and serve and I just want him to quit and give up before the next massacre hits closer to home and a crazy person with a legally obtained assault weapon takes his life along with others.

As many Americans, I am not too thrilled with the 2016 presidential campaign. Every week seems to bring a new low point and embarrassment for us to deal with from both parties. Whether it be Clinton or Trump elected to be our next POTUS how will either one of them make a difference if our Republican controlled House cannot pass sensible gun legislation or the nominations for Supreme Court Justices are blocked?

We have had precious little children in school, folks worshiping and so giving in their Church, folks at work enjoying a celebration and now folks dancing and enjoying a time out at a nightclub all gunned down. GUNNED DOWN! I just cannot comprehend this!! How could this happen and why? What can we do about it that we haven't already done? Have we done enough and this just is what it is? I sadly think maybe it is. Why can we not pass sensible gun legislation that will not impinge on our Second Amendment rights? Every single one of these massacres was committed by a crazy person with a legally obtained assault weapon yet we do nothing about it. The hate and discrimination amongst us in this election is worse than it has ever been. "Build a wall to keep the murderous rapists from Mexico out, ban ALL Muslims from entering the US and monitor the Mosques because "Muslims are Radical Islamic Terrorists attending Mosques". "The Pulse massacre was the result of Radical Islamic Terrorism". In fact, the Pulse massacre was a hate crime done under the guise of Radical Islamic Terrorism, call it what it is please. Is this just another explanation for hate and discrimination? Yes it is!

Many innocent lives have been lost due to these senseless tragedies at the hands of a crazy person with an assault weapon yet we refuse to do anything about it. In addition, and something not talked about, is the strain and stress put on our law enforcement men and women. The drain on their resources and the psychological impact is overwhelming. The tragedy of these senseless killings lives on for law enforcement as much as it does for families of the innocent victims and the rest of us. When is enough enough?   Whew, done raging! Your thoughts? Be kind

Re: My Rage!

Braveone, that was an amazing post. I totally agree with everything you said.

I am interested in what your SO thinks also. Does he agree with your assessment. I have never really thought of it from the viewpoint of a Police Officer. Do the majority support the ban on assault weapons?

Thank you for that compassionate post. I think more of us need to speak out about this. The citizens of America need to make our voices heard.  I think the first step should be using our votes to get rid of the Congressmen/Congresswomen who did not support the voice of the people concerning Gun Control.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your post!

Good question about the viewpoint from police. I can't speak  for all but think I can for many. SO and his fellow officers fully support a National ban on assault weapons. They also fully support the Second Amendment for law abiding well trained citizens, and comprehensive background checks including mental health checks.

In our state (MA) we have a "partial ban" on assault weapons. The ban is basically based on cosmetics and capacity. Assault weapons are prohibited based on "banned features" unless lawfully owned on or prior to September 13, 1994. Very confusing! Although we have some of the most strictest gun laws in the US, particularly for assault weapons, it is not enough.

Re: My Rage!

After the Sandy Hook killings I was sure something would finally be done.  How could we let innocent children be killed and not do anything about it?   I'm afraid that at this point nothing will be done.  The NRA lobby is too strong and the legislators are afraid to act against them.  So instead of doing what the people that voted for them want they listen to the gun lobby.

Re: My Rage!

It will have to come from the people. The change will only come when the people get fed up enough and force the hand of the government. Doubt it happens anytime soon. Most folks are doing whatever they can to merely keep their heads above water and take care of family.
I understand your fears, Braveone. Many mothers share those fears everyday when they send their sons out of the house.
Take care.

I agree...I realized that only after all those children were butchered in that manner and nothing, no compassion, no crying for change from those in bed with the gun lobby, that we would ever get change.

Why would anyone want that gigantic weapon in their possession is beyond my comprehension...its like they've been brainwashed, and can't live their life without it.

OR,,,until some person takes the life of a loved one....then watch how quickly they will opt for change.

As crossymom states, we all expected something to change after the Sandy Hook massacre but sadly nothing changed. The NRA lobby IS too strong and has far too much influence, because of all the money, but it is our greedy legislators and their need to 'keep their jobs' that allow this. They don't do what the people who voted for them want yet they continue to get voted in. This will never change unless we the voters decide differently and stop voting for them.

I believe that we, the voters, are much stronger than the NRA. If we truly want change it is time to speak in stronger voices and vote more responsibly. How many of us know how our legislators voted for sensible gun control bills before and after we voted for them? How many of us reached out to our legislators in support of the recent bills before they were voted down? And if our elected legislator voted NO, did we tell them how disappointed we were? It is imperative, imo, to do some research before casting the all important vote. This info is readily available if we take the time to look.

Sorry for continuing my rage, I am just so pissed! Hope you are as well and will send a clear message to our greedy
legislators that enough is enough!!

Thanks Vantro!
A separate post for this information and similar information will be most helpful. Even this small group can make a big difference!
