Jim Bob Duggar dropped a bomb about Christian families like his own that everyone missed during the disastrous Fox News interview last June.
Perhaps it was just another way to excuse his son Josh’s pedophilia, or perhaps he was throwing other crazy conservative “Christian” families under a speeding bus, but either way, Jim Bob Duggar made a statement to Fox News that seems to prove just how dangerous sexually repressive Christian doctrine is to children and teens.
As Jim Bob Duggar spoke while his subservient wife stayed quiet, he claimed that child molestation is common in Christian families, especially the families he sought advice from in the wake of learning that Josh molested four of his own sisters while they slept.
“It was a very difficult situation. But as we talked to other parents and different ones since then, a lot of families have said that they have had similar things that happened in their families.”

This is NOT what Christian doctrine does to children and teens. This is NOT normal in a Christian family.
Perhaps the extreme brand of "Christianity" that this family practices is way too repressive and may have caused an unnatural sexual curiosity in their son. But this is not normal. This family is not normal. period

An insult to normal Christian families.

No where in his quoted statedment did he he say it is common in Christian families. He doesn't say the word Christian. I do think that this kind of thing happens between siblings in many families Christian or not.

Well I partially agree with you need. The history of this family is a bit disgusting, so I cannot give him the benefit of the doubt. I realize this not just a problem in Christian families, but when you consider this family & who they turn to to solve problems then common sense tells us he is referring to Christian families. These ppl are not good Christians & thankfully most ppl, Christian or otherwise do not go through life thinking molestation is acceptable & simply fixed through prayer.

I might have reacted too quickly because, you're right Need, it doesn't say anything about Christian families. And I agree that this is more common in families than we would like to think. But, The Duggers really only associate with other families that practice the same form of extreme Christianity. So, I think although it isn't stated that way, it is certainly implied.

religion notwithstanding i would imagine this happens in families who are as sheltered and repressed as this one. in my work i have found that sibs perping on sibs or foster sibs occurs the vast majority of time in cases where the perpetrator has himself or herself been abused.
