Agnes Nixon, creator and writer of AMC and OLTL has died.

Wow....that's an old name. I have to say at least her soaps contained controversial topics. Now the soaps just deal with the boring love triangle. At least Bold and Beautiful had a transgender story line. That was interesting and then they let it drop instead of continuing on with that family.
RIP Agnes.

I loved the old soaps, they were so much more fun back in the day.
Anybody old enough to remember "Love of Life", "The Edge Of Night'?
Then came "All My Children" with all the campy characters.
In the beginning, I really liked "General Hospital", then Robert Scorpio arrived, and for me, the show was never the same.

I was about 10 the first time I watched OLTL. Agnes Nixon really knew how to write compelling storylines. There was a woman of black heritage that was light skinned & pretending to be white in order to advance her career. At the age of 10 I found this storyline so compelling. Then AMC aired in 1970 & I was hooked. Erica Kane was such a spoiled little brat but boy was she entertaining. Susan Lucci was Agnes Nixon's shinning star! Over the years Erica Kane became one of the Soap world's greatest Divas!
Agnes Nixon was a genius in the Soap industry. Those were the days!
BTW Dolly why do you not like Robert Scorpio?

I don't dislike Robert Scorpio. I just consider the introduction of his character and his story line to be the end of innocence for the soaps.

I agree, it did change the focus on Soaps. The adventure s/l vs. the storytelling of Agnes Nixon.

Sam....I was at home with my mother when we had the TV tuned into OLTL. My mother didn't watch the soaps but I liked them. All of a sudden my mother stopped and looked like she had seen something so startling! It was the first time "Karla" Ellen Holly who is black, kissed her costar, a white doctor. It was the first time my mother ever saw a black women kiss a white man, at least on TV. My mother was from Virginia. And at that time, I think marriage between blacks and whites was STILL against the law. I might have to be fact checked about that. (See the "Love" case in the State of VA.)
Agnes was one smart lady and she had good writers.

Zeke, That was one of my favorite storylines EVER! I loved Carla Gray, so beautiful but tortured by her hidden secret. I was 10 years old and I was so intrigued by this Soap. My Mom did not watch Soaps either but thankfully she never stopped me.
Agnes Nixon created such compelling story lines. She was a classy, strong woman with a creative mind.

She had cojones alright. That was a bold storyline. I loved Carla, too. Lots of folks have to walk that line in life. Not easy.
I miss AMC. Now most of the soaps just do the love triangle.
