I told you about the local pilot that crashed his plane.... well, he was sixty years old, a retired Lt. Col. and served two tours of duty. When he and his wife moved back to town they bought a house, after moving in, it burned to the ground. Instead of buying another house, they decided to rebuild, they had only been in the new house for a short period of time when his plane went down. Her parents decided to fly here for his funeral, they were to arrive at Logan Airport at 9:00 p.m., the night before the funeral. My brother-in-law found someone to pick them up, he was there on time, they weren't. Their plane (in England) had mechanical difficulties so they had to board another one. They ended up arriving around midnight instead. They made it all but one mile back to town, when the driver fell asleep, he ended up driving through thick woods and came to a stop quite a ways off the highway. He was using the widow's car and it's been totaled, but he and her parents were unhurt. As her father said, "I didn't know where we were going I thought it was strange, but I didn't know." Well, his widow is now driving their truck, today she drove into her yard, lost control and hit the top of an underground propane tank in her yard, she wasn't hurt, but the top blew off the tank and there was flame coming out of it until all the gas burned off. I can't imagine how hard it must be to keep dealing with what this family has been through! How does she not go to bed, pull the covers over her head and stay there for a while?

I think people just live in shock for a while. When the time allows, they may break down silently and alone.
I hope the family ends up ok. They have had their share of bad things happening.
