It's official, the partial shutdown is here

After the Democrats refused to fund trump's wall, a partial shutdown took hold in the early hours of Saturday.  Even though he bragged about taking full responsibility for the shutdown earlier in the week, trump is, of course, blaming the Democrats for the shutdown.  He knows that his followers will flip/flop right along with him as he changes his tune every other day.  I don't imagine putting others out of work before Christmas will change his plans too much, I expect he'll be in Florida filling his coffers with more taxpayer money.

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

The Senate adjourned for the day Saturday (today) afternoon without coming to an agreement on a spending deal that would end a partial government shutdown -- likely assuring the federal closures will continue until after Christmas.

The move means members can travel home for Christmas and not worry about being called back to vote until a deal could be reached, but GOP leaders told senators that if there was no deal by Thursday, they would not have to return for that session

Say 'NO" to the wall!!!

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

Per CNN:

(CNN)President Donald Trump's incoming acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said the partial government shutdown could continue into next year.

"It is very possible that the shutdown will go beyond the 28th and into the new Congress," Mulvaney said on "Fox News Sunday" as the shutdown began its second day.

After Trump and Congress failed to resolve a dispute over funding for border security and Trump's border wall on Friday, the government went into partial shutdown. Mulvaney said Sunday morning that the White House had moved down from its demand for $5 billion and hoped Democrats would move up from their offer for $1.3 billion in border security funding.

Mulvaney's comments came after the Senate adjourned on Saturday, which meant the shutdown would likely continue past Christmas.

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

Per CNN:

Washington (CNN)Tennessee GOP Sen. Bob Corker said on Sunday that President Donald Trump pushed the government into partial shutdown as an act of political posturing.

"This is a made-up fight, so the President can look like he's fighting, but even if he wins, our borders are going to be insecure," Corker said on CNN's "State of the Union."

Corker's comments came as the partial government shutdown went into its second day, following Congress and Trump failing to come to a funding agreement on Friday. The Senate adjourned on Saturday without an agreement, meaning the shutdown would likely continue past Christmas.

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

This is painful to watch. He is using working class people to get what he wants....a wall that will not work. It's strictly a play to his continue to keep his followers in line. If he loses them he'll lose his job. It's his ego at stake.

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

he only wants the wall because he knows it's the only monument that he'll get.  And he'll be able to say it's the biggest monument to any U.S. president.  The Trump Wall.

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

Government shutdown looks set to drag on to 2019 after House and Senate adjourn until next week

The House and Senate adjourned Thursday after brief pro forma sessions and made plans to reconvene Monday, essentially punting any action to end the partial government shutdown until next week as negotiators remain far from an agreement.

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

As the shutdown continues...all due to the pervert....because he owns this over a stupid wall....
I feel bad for the people that its affecting most...those that will be out of work

A quarter of the federal government will likely begin the new year out of work or working without pay.For the 380,000 federal employees on furlough and the other 420,000 working without pay, this means it's time to start making plans for how to pay January bills without the promise of their next paycheck as part of the government remains shutdown.

The US Office of Personnel Management tweeted out sample letters for federal employees to send to their creditors, mortgage companies or landlords. The letters suggest that employees ask to pay a reduced amount or create a payment plan in the coming months because they are out of work and not getting paid during the shutdown.

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

Yes the shut down is happening and it looks like it will be a long one which makes me very nervous as my husband is a essential government employee so is working for he duration without being payed. The worst thing is that reimbursement when the shut down is over is largely up to Trump so we can't even count on that.  I have a feeling this is going to be a very long shut down too and that will be really bad for a lot of people.

No matter how educated, talented, rich, or cool you think you are, how you treat people tells us all.  Integrity is everything.

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

Sorry to hear that 'need'...so horrible that the essential employees have to work without getting paid...

Hopefully once the Dems take over the House...they can do something to speed the process up, so these loyal employees can get paid faster...even IF the shutdown continues.

Let us know how you make out....try to have a Happy New Year...

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

he has a history of not paying contractors who work for him so he has no problem with not paying "the little people."   And yet, his base loves him.

I agree...he cares about NO ONE but himself.....It increasingly appears that he is acting in his own, putting America and Americans second.

Per (CNN)

And so it continues. With no end in sight to the government shutdown, President Donald Trump, who rightly said a government shutdown should be blamed on the White House, now seems unwilling to accept responsibility. As a result, hundreds of thousands of innocent government workers -- Democrats, Republicans and Independents -- are being forced to go without the paychecks they need to feed, house and clothe their families.

(These are government workers who, by the way, Trump decided will not receive any pay raise in 2019.) And millions of citizens nationwide are being forced to go without some of the government services on which they may depend.

Re: It's official, the partial shutdown is here

just saw an interview on CNN with a Federal janitor who is, of course, out of work due to the shutdown.  She is 71 and works on contract so when they go back to work, she will not get back pay.  Normally, she would be able to use sick or vacation time to cover the days she won't be paid, but she has none available.  So her mortgage, car, utilities, etc still need to be paid while DT is stubbornly holding out for his monument to himself.  Think about the peripheral businesses that are losing money because of his stubbornness--hotels, restaurants, tourist attractions.  He thinks of no one but himself and what he wants and thinks nothing of the people he's supposed to be working for.

Didn't you hear today, he said they all support him, he thinks they're actually glad to give up their pay because they like what he's doing.

I think what he's doing is criminal. I fault the stupid people who voted for him. THEY put this asshole in office....unqualified, narcissistic, knows nothing of negotiation skills, operates only for his self-enrichment, incapable of compassion for others, no morals, no respect for women or people of color, uses people and then discards them once they have served him....and this is the short list.
