Huffington Post: A curvaceous rat in Bensheim, Germany, is making international headlines after an embarrassing mishap - getting stuck in a manhole cover. The reason the situation is getting so much attention is because, even in the face of adversity, the rat looked ridiculously cute. "We don't know how the rat got stuck," a nonprofit animal group reported. Images on facebook went viral after posted on Sunday This rat is portly because of an abundance of "good food." A young girl noticed the rat was in distress and called the rescuers, the local fire department was needed for backup. They were able to lift the manhole cover and free the chubby little guy. The rat is reportedly in good condition and has been let go. Animal rescuer, Michael Sehr, was prepared to answer anyone who criticized the rescue, "even animals that are hated by many, deserve respect." Wish I knew how to link this article, the picture of the rat was so cute. I used to have pet mice when I was young, I know how people in the city hate these critters, but I have a soft spot for them. (Of course if I had to deal with them around my house, I probably would have a different opinion.) They are the cleanup crew.

This is a tough one for me. Not sure how I feel about this one because I am an animal lover but when it comes to rats....... I'm glad he wasn't harmed but I'm glad I wasn't there to see it.....

I hear you zeke, they have a terrible reputation for a reason. The picture of him was charming though. lol There have been pictures posted over the years of pet rats holding teddy bears and other cute poses, it's just hard to forget the other side to them. I do think they were put here to clean up the messes the rest of us make, just like the hated seagulls.

Thanks, Spunky????
teluog, bless your heart if you have affection for these little creatures. I don't wish them bad but I'll be ok if I NEVER see one.
I saw one in a NY subway once. He was HUGE and walking up the steps, exiting with the other commuters.
