Notre Dame Cathedral is on fire
Such a shock......it was heartbreaking to see the spire collapse. I'm sure The good people of France are devastated to see such an iconic house of worship destroyed by fire.

No one knows how it started...
It was built in the 13th century, the medieval cathedral is considered a feat of architecture as much as a religious symbol. It is one of Paris' most popular attractions, drawing an estimated 13 million visitors a year.
As the spire fell, onlookers in the crowd let out gasps and groans

I heard on the news that they believe a worker may have started it (by mistake) with a torch he was using...
And fire fighters DO NOT believe that they can save the structure....
They are hoping that they will be able to save the stained glass window in the front.....but the inside has all burned...

French official says "both towers of the cathedral are safe" and the fire is cooling...
“The fire is now weaker. We are now in a time of cooling but both towers of the cathedral are safe. We're still working to save the cathedral's work of arts," Laurent Nunez told reporters at the scene.

Many of the historic relics are safe. Many of the treasures are safe because they had been removed for the renovations. They can rebuild but there are big losses.

President Emmanuel Macron has promised to rebuild the site, saying Monday that France will launch an international fundraising campaign to assist with the effort.
The process will be expensive and lengthy, and it could take time to begin in earnest. Immediate steps will need to be taken to prevent further damage, since the structure is now particularly vulnerable to water damage.
So far France's three wealthiest families have come to the rescue of a national icon, spearheading a fundraising drive to rebuild Notre Dame that has topped $700 million.

The fire at Notre-Dame cathedral on Monday prompted immediate pledges of millions of euros to help rebuild it.
On Tuesday, it spurred donations to do the same for much smaller places of worship thousands of miles away that were recently destroyed by arson.A crowdfunding campaign for three fire-ravaged black churches in Louisiana received more than $1.2 million after it was widely shared on social media on Tuesday.
Many users noted that while hundreds of millions of euros had already been pledged to rebuild the famous cathedral, the small churches in Louisiana were still struggling.

The campaign was posted on GoFundMe last Wednesday by the Seventh District Baptist Association, which includes 54 Baptist churches in southwest Louisiana, including the three that were burned. The association noted that donations would go to rebuilding and replacing what was destroyed, from pews to sound systems and musical instruments.
Those who shared the campaign on Twitter included Hillary Clinton, the journalist Yashar Ali; and Jake Tapper, the CNN anchor.
