I am so saddened by the bill that was passed in Alabama essentially ending all abortions in the state.
I don't know that I would ever be able make the decision to have one if I would be faced with an unexpected pregnancy but that doesn't mean I should have that choice taken away from me. This is a decision that should be made by a woman in conference with her doctor and trusted family or friends...not politicians. There is no equivalent in the male world. You can be sure that if there were, this would never have passed.

I totally agree....and it applies even in cases of RAPE....
It doesn't take effect for 6 months , so the ACLU is going to fight it....hope they're successful.....it was ALL men that voted for this.....However, the Governor had the choice of NOT signing it, but SHE signed it anyway!!!

This was posted in the NYT today:
"25 men in Alabama voted on Tuesday to pass the most restrictive abortion ban in the country. "I took off my press pass and went back to being a woman who lives in Alabama. I choked back tears as I tried to push past the crowd," writes the journalist Abbey Crain.:"

I saw an awful lot about of support for this bill on facebook last night. So many women posting that they LOVED being barefoot and pregnant, LOVED every minute of their pregnancies and the children that they have. I too loved being pregnant and love my child. I've been fortunate to never have had an unplanned pregnancy (some "close calls" though!). I have to assume that these women supporting the bill have never been faced with a pregnancy as the result of a rape or incest. I assume they've had some sort of home when they were pregnant and that they were above the poverty line. I don't believe that women wake up and say ok, do the grocery shopping, vacuum the floors, and, oh yeah, I think I'll get an abortion. I believe for the vast majority of women it's a very difficult decision. Back in the late 70s I counseled women and girls who were faced with an unplanned pregnancy. It was difficult for every one of them. And now doctors are faced with a 99 year sentence for performing an abortion. What choice will they make when faced with saving to woman or the baby when only one is able to be saved?
I may not choose an abortion for myself, but every woman has the right to make that choice based on medical information available to her and based on her own situation.

These bills are crazy! It's crazy how these state legislators are obsessed with telling women what to do.

Alabama Executes a Murderer a Day After Banning Abortions
"Though the timing was coincidental, the actions taken by Alabama on consecutive days served to highlight widely held positions on the political right that some people say are in conflict, with protecting human life held paramount in one context but not another...Gov. Kay Ivey, who declined to halt the scheduled execution, has expressed some discomfort with her role in the death penalty. Early in her tenure, she said she did not “relish the responsibility that I hold” in capital cases, and she has repeatedly depicted it as an unwelcome duty of her office....Even so, Ms. Ivey has not used her authority under the state constitution to reprieve or commute any death sentence since she took office in April 2017.
