When nine-year-old Ryan Kirkpatrick heard a report about a little five-year-old girl who couldn't pay for her school lunches, he had a conversation with his Mom about the policy in his own school in Napa, California. His Mom called the school to see what their policy was and found out that children who couldn't pay carried the debt. That's when Ryan came up with a plan, to pay off what was owed for meals by children who hadn't paid. It totaled $74.50, so Ryan, who usually saves his money for sporting gear, broke open his piggy bank and paid for the meals in full. He just wanted these kids to know that someone cared for them.
