as New Reporting Casts Doubt on Key Allegation..............
In a new story in the New Yorker, investigative reporter Jane Mayer found a number of holes in the story of Franken’s primary accuser. In November 2017, a conservative talk-radio station released a photo of Franken pantomiming grabbing radio host Leeann Tweeden’s breasts while on a 2006 USO tour. That was followed by seven additional allegations of groping or unwanted kisses, eventually leading to 36 Democratic senators calling for him to step down despite the fact that both Franken and Tweeden were calling for an independent investigation.Mayer talked to a number of the Democratic senators who urged Franken to step down, and seven regretted it, with Sen. Patrick Leahy saying it was “one of the biggest mistakes I’ve made” in his 45-year Senate career.
“If there’s one decision I’ve made that I would take back, it’s the decision to call for his resignation,” said former Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota. “It was made in the heat of the moment, without concern for exactly what this was.”

Al Franken was wonderful. He should not have been forced to step down. I think most democratic senators would feel remorse, especially in light of the 24 allegations of sexual misconduct against the president.....note how his cronies are silent.

I agree......he was great...sorry that he is gone....he didn't deserve to be treated like that.
Perhaps he should try to make a comeback....and those people that have regrets about doing that to him, should stand with him on the comeback..

I think he should come back. In the beginning I didn't want to believe that woman was lying. I wanted to hear her story. In the end I felt like she turned it into a smear campaign against a person who although was not blameless was at least remorseful and apologetic.....more than I can say about the guy in the WH.

I think Leanne Tweeden made it her personal goal to bring Al Franken down because he was a popular and effective Democrat. I'm not defending that photo. He was wrong to do that, but I believe he was trying to be funny and that was a big fail. He learned. He was sorry and said so. He stepped down and I'm sure Leanne and her pals were over the moon when that happened.
