Catholic school reportedly removes Harry Potter books .....

......from library because they 'risk conjuring evil spirits'

A Catholic school in Tennessee has reportedly removed the popular Harry Potter book series from its library because they “risk conjuring evil spirits.”
The Rev. Dan Reehil, a pastor at the St. Edward School, a pre-K through 8th grade Roman Catholic school in Nashville, explained to parents in an email why the extremely popular seven-book series by J.K. Rowling about a young wizard and his friends were taken out of the school’s collection.
"These books present magic as both good and evil, which is not true, but in fact a clever deception. The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text," the email states, according to a report in The Tennesseean.

My humble opinion....this banning of books is bad for so many reasons and we have to be careful and watchful that this practice does not spill over into the public schools.  This is the control of information. Young people must read everything and make judgments of their own. Do I like the use of the "N" word in Mark Twain's books? Do I think those books should be banned? A resounding NO!  The books should be read with an explanation but never banned.

I totally agree....Nothing should be banned....the parents should speak up in protest...these kids will probably read them on their own....this should make them really curious as to why these books are being banned and more importantly....WHY?

Re: Catholic school reportedly removes Harry Potter books .....

After the school's decision started to gain attention, the Diocese's Superintendent of Schools Rebecca Hammel sent an e-mail to school staff clarifying the scope of the "Harry Potter" purge.

In a copy of the letter provided to CNN, Hammel expressed regret that the decision had brought the school "undesired attention." She also clarified the school is not enacting a ban: The series was never part of the school's curriculum, and students can still read the books on school grounds.

We leave these decisions to you as your children's primary educator."
