The body of Rep. John Lewis was carried across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, on Sunday. More than 50 years ago, he marched across that same bridge in a civil rights demonstration, helping change American history.

Rep. John Lewis will today become the first Black lawmaker to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda, as the civil rights icon receives one of the highest American honors.
His coffin will then be moved outside so the public can pay respects safely.

An honor for the two men escorting Mr. Lewis.....this is very sad and a great loss.
So many of our strong public servants are dying and the replacements.....not so good. I am not seeing people that make me feel hopeful. The vocal fighters are leaving us..... I thought the death of Teddy Kennedy was a great loss to Pres Obama. TK was a fighter and a backer of Obama. Although he lost power and respect because of the death of Mary Jo Kopechne, his downfall was a loss for the country. Other senators didn't mess with him because he could shout them down. Who is there to do that now? McCain had balls. He spoke up....not always on the side I would have been but he did speak up. He's gone too. The dimwits are in control.

It would be nice to rename the bridge after Mr. Lewis but I am conflicted. I agree with Mr. Lewis that it's not a good thing to change history. If we do, how will we remember those things we don't want repeated?

While there was an outpouring of bipartisan tributes and remembrances following Lewis’s death, Trump’s was barely noticeable.“Saddened to hear the news of civil rights hero John Lewis passing,” Trump tweeted the afternoon following the congressman’s death. “Melania and I send our prayers to he and his family.”
