Kim Davis released, but judge bars her from withholding marriage licenses. Her attorney says "she's not going to violate her conscience"Could you imagine having to be a clerk in her office and face her over already issuing marriage licenses? The clerks told the judge they WOULD issue licenses after being threatened with being jailed if they did not comply. Now Kim is going to probably stop them from issuing licenses again. I'd tell her "I'm under court order to issue the licenses, and I'm not going to jail for you!I

I saw an interview with Mike Huckabee, and he referenced Gavin Newsome (former mayor of San Francisco) not being jailed for issuing same sex marriage licenses before it was legal. This is a BIG LIE because Gavin Newsom STOPPED issuing them after he was ordered by a judge to stop. Therefore, he was not held in contempt of court, so not jailed. Now, I see so many conservatives repeating this talking point without understanding Gavin Newsome STOPPED when order by a judge. Kim did not obey the court order, so she was jailed!

You have to check your facts before just repeating talking points, LOL!

The press conference after she was released was so bizarre. Kim Davis reminds me of Carrie's Mother from the original movie. (I think Dolly posted the pic previously & I wish I knew how to post it because if is quite funny). But in all seriousness KD is a wacko! She is really loving all this attention. I think she actually believes God is speaking through her. What a hypocrite! There is a verse from the Bible that says adulterers should be put to death. So why does she think that does not apply to her? HYPOCRITE!

It will be interesting to see if those marriage licenses will be issued today. She still is objecting because her name/stamp must go on those licenses. I do not see her following the Judges order because from what I have seen she is on a power trip & she feels she has won. The support of Mike Huckabee & the cheering crowd made her feel giddy & righteous. It will be interesting to see what happens today.

I saw that...she couldn't stop giggling....what a stupid crazy woman, just laughing at all those fools standing there cheering her on.

Huckabee volunteered to go to jail in her place... I agree!...put him in the cell with her, if she doesn't allow the clerks to do their jobs, and follow the LAW!

I just read that she may return to work as early as Friday.

I wonder when the next election will be? Because to me that would be the final say. Then she can just go away & live her life the way she chooses, without the power to push her beliefs on others. It will be interesting to see if she will be re-elected. I do not see how that could be possible, but in today's world I am not so sure.

I don't know when the next election is, but the legislature is out until January. In order to recall her before then, they'd need to have a special early session that would cost a lot of money for some reason.

I think she's going to go back this week, and attempt to instruct her deputies not to issue anymore same sex marriage licenses. I think she is going to end up back in jail and that this is just the beginning of a long, drawn out story. She looked a little too happy in front of the crowd. I see a monster in the making.

Also, how sickening is it to watch Huckabee use this woman for his political gain. "I am willing to spend 8 years in prison!" Hey Mike, two things. 1. That isn't how it works. 2. This isn't about you.

I think religious extremism is a form of mental illness. It's much easier just to think "I have to adhere to XYZ and then I don't have to make any decisions for myself". "If I do XYZ , I can never be wrong or suffer the consequences of my actions." Fundamentalism or rigidity is mental illness.

Look no further than Westboro Church's recent comments on the Kentucky clerk, Kim Davis:

"Referring to Jeremiah 3:20 — the King James version of which reads, "Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD" — WBC undertook a P.R. campaign over the weekend, attacking the thrice-divorced (and legally remarried) Kim Davis in a string of Tweets and YouTube videos as an "oath breaker" and a "lawbreaker" — meaning, of course, God's law.
"Get this straight: you can NOT repent of a sin you actively live. Kim must leave that man who's not her husband," the organization said on Twitter."

Now who would want someone from Westboro as their county clerk exercising their "religious freedom" by not allowing marriage licenses to a divorcee?

I agree. The Westboro Church has a point because she's cherry picking passages to suit her bigotry. She's ok to divorce and remarry and have children out of wedlock, because that part of the Bible doesn't apply to her. She can issue licenses to divorcees, because she doesn't obey that part of the same Bible passage she uses to prevent gays from getting married.

No it does not. I guess she & her entourage are selective Bible pushers. They pick the verses that fit their belief & skip the rest. So disturbing that so many people cheer such behavior.

I did wonder what that term "Apostolic" meant. Guess I do need to look it up. LOL

When Davis was released and everyone was waiting for her to get to the podium, Ted Cruz was trying to get to the area to be on camera with them. A man connected with Huckabee's campaign refused to let Cruz pass him to get on camera while all the action was taking place. There was also a trooper or some kind of cop standing close by. Cruz put up a fuss, but was not permitted to go any further. It was kind of funny. Two candidates trying to get recognition in connection with this idiot woman. They will do anything for a photo op.

Definitely!

She is giddy with the power she thinks she has. I agree with danyi that for some their "religious convictions" seem to be some form of mental illness. The way she was acting up on that podium after her release was very strange & a bit scary. I do not think this sideshow is over.

So she is back at work today and per my local news, a license has been issued for a same sex couple. It is my understanding that the license has been changed and her name has been removed and I also think that her office title has also been removed (not totally sure I heard that right), and that some verbage about been mandated by court order has been included.

How long do you all think this will continue? I hope that she and her supporters that encourage her to defy the law will just blend into the background but I kinda think this will not be the last we hear from her.

I bet Huckabee and Cruz are just devastated that she's allowing any licenses to be issued at all. They probably worked all weekend and nibbled their pencils to a nub trying to out-outrage eachother with their angry speeches planned for today.

She was ordered not to interfere with issuing the licenses. She has had her name taken off them and is also saying that she doesn't think they are legally binding without her name. Isn't that still interfering?

Anyway, i'm glad people in her county are getting married and Huckabee and Cruz no longer have a sacrificial cow.
