This was a little bit funny at the time!

Inmates working at a Vermont correctional unit's print shop managed to sneak an image of a pig into a state police crest, that's emblazoned on the door of its police cars.  30 state police cruisers sported the design for about a year before it was spotted by one of the cops.  The official crest depicts a cow against a background of snowy mountains...one artistic inmate made one of the cow's spots look like a pig.   Some of us thought it was funny, Vermont officials were not amused.

I think it's still funny.....

Wow... it took them long enough to notice it....

Yes I have.  It's where the Von Trapp family moved because it reminded them of home.  The Mother lived there until she died, I believe.  They had quite a bad fire there several years ago, she was still alive then and they rebuilt.  It's in the town of Stowe and it's in the chalet style.  It's rustic inside and very large, more like a hotel.  Stowe is one of those picture perfect towns we like to ride through, usually at least a couple of times a year.  Ben and Jerry's ice cream plant is within maybe ten miles.  A lot of tourists.

We were staying in Stowe a number of years ago and took a drive up to the Trappe family hotel.  It's in a beautiful spot.  While we were there we saw one of the daughters (can't remember which one) who was by then a little old lady.  She was wearing traditional dress.  I don't know if she normally wore it when she was at the lodge or if it was for a special event.

Maria Von Trapp died in 1987.  I think the last remaining child, portrayed in the movie, died maybe five or six years ago.  They only had one child together, the others she adopted, I don't know if that child is still alive or not.  Whenever I saw them on television doing interviews, etc. they always had the traditional dress on.  I think the Inn is more stunning on the outside than on the inside.

I've been to Suger Bush, VT. Not sure how far that is from Stowe. I was in college so it was a loooong time ago.
I had no idea the Von Trapps settled up there. I looked up information about them after viewing the Sound of Music. So much of the film was fictional but the movie is still wonderful.
The Inn is on my long car ride trip list which is getting very extensive.

My husband and I think that Sugarbush is maybe an hour or a little more from the Lodge.  Warren is off the beaten path.  I was sharing the Von Trapp's story with my Granddaughter and friend this last summer, they're just about old enough to enjoy the movie.
