I just got home. My friend and I went to see West Side Story tonight and all I can say is wow! Spielberg took a much loved classic and made it better. He honoured the original movie and casted new young actors who were actually Spanish speaking Latinos/Latinas. The entire look and feel of this film payed homage to the original……well worth seeing.

FABULOUS....Spielberg did justice to this musical. I saw the original musical on Broadway as a kid so I was hesitant. I saw the movie with Natalie Wood and hated it. This was very true to the original show.
But here is an amateur's critique.:
-Excellent casting...all of them
-Excellent choreography
-Excellent music
-Stayed close to the original story
-A little long
-Wish they didn't change some of the original lyrics
-Should have left "Doc" in as "Doc" but Rita Moreno is executive producer (Valencia, Doc's widow)
-That drugstore scene where the Jets girlfriend tries to prevent the rape of Anita never happened in the B'way musical
-The four principals were cast perfectly....soooo talented....outstanding
I've been a frustrated "Maria" since I was a kid....my dreamIt's good to dream............

I remember being disappointed when I learned that Natalie Wood didn’t sing in that movie. And then I learned Audrey Hepburn didn’t sing in My Fair Lady…..they were both dubbed by Marnie Nixon. That doesn’t fly today thankfully.
I’m so happy you like the movie. I loved it…..have you seen In The Heights yet?

Hi Clean. I saw it on b’way and decided to wait for the film to stream.
I saw Hamilton by the same creator and thought that was wonderful.
