As Chris Rock presented the award for best documentary feature at the Oscars Sunday night, the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith and her lack of hair. Rock said he couldn't wait to see her star in "G.I. Jane 2," referencing her shaved head.
Pinkett Smith said last year she went bald after daughter, Willow, encouraged her to do so.Pinkett Smith said she has had alopecia, which results in severe hair loss, since 2018.
At first,Will Smith seemed to laugh at the joke, but then got up and hit Rock in the face as he stood on the stage. Rock appeared to be in shock, and Smith sat back down and said, "keep my wife's name out of your (expletive) mouth," twice.

Chris Rock crossed a line, but I’m not sure if he was aware that Jada has Alopecia. Still, Will should have not left his seat no matter how much he wanted to defend his wife’s honour. They could of had it out after the show. Now this years Oscar’s will be remembered for how Will assaulted and then cursed at Chris on a live show that is broadcast around the world. That moment changed the tone of thee tire show.

Jada was very pubic about her condition....So IMHO I believe that Chris Rock knew. During rehearsals for the show, these lines were NOT part of the script. He embarrassed her and it was then when Will Smith looked over at her and saw that she was hurt, that he reacted in that way.
When Will won the highest honor of his profession, his words in response were a tour de force of contrition without actually seeking forgiveness from the person he had most wronged.
Will's speech, which laid out his self-image as a "protector," revealed his disruption of the ceremony not to be as much about himself -- as a father, husband and patriarch -- BUT as it was about defending his wife.
Jada's children were also hurt for their mom...

I just read online that ...
In a post on Instagram on Monday afternoon, Smith called his behavior "unacceptable and inexcusable."
"Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally," he wrote.
"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be.
There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness."
Smith added in his post that, "Violence in all forms is poisonous and destructive."

I didn't watch the Oscars but saw the clip--numerous times. Will Smith was completely out of line. No matter what the joke was, he should have sat there and graciously accepted it and dealt with it afterwards. I would be furious at my husband for doing that! That being said, they should not take away his Oscar, but he should have been escorted out immediately. He should not have been present to accept his award and he should not have gotten a standing ovation.
Not that it makes much of a difference, but Jada had tweeted a short time before the Oscars that she loved her shaved head. AND Will laughed at the joke initially.
He had no right to march up on stage and take someone else's moment.

Will should have been escorted out of the bldg after what happened……however, doing so would have made everything worse. I’m sure he was allowed to stay because someone in authority knew he was going to win. Can you imagine the audience’s reaction if his name was called and he suddenly wasn’t there to accept the award? I completely understand that he’d be upset about what Chris said, but that’s no reason
To physically assault a person. There’s enough blame to go around.

I just read somewhere this morning that he was asked to leave and he refused. I still say he should have been escorted out. And when his name was called and he wasn't there, the audience would know why. One of the hosts would have accepted on his behalf.
