Actor Will Smith banned from attending Oscars for 10 years
Will Smith will not be allowed to attend the Academy Awards for the next 10 years, as a result of his slapping comedian Chris Rockon stage during this year's Oscar ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced in a statement.
"The Board has decided, for a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards," Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement on Friday.
The decision was made during a Board of Governors meeting held earlier in the day in Los Angeles. The meeting, initially scheduled for April 18, was expedited after Smith announced his resignation from the Academy last week.Smith issued a quick, concise statement on his ban from the Oscars for the next decade.
"I accept and respect the Academy's decision," the actor said in a statement.

I wonder if Will would have gone up on stage to hit Chris Rock if had been able to predict the outcome of his actions…..I’m betting he didn’t think the academy would have reconsidered what he did. Ten years is a long time to be banned, but what he did was reprehensible.

I don't think he thought about what he did...it was just a reaction--a bad one, at that. I think this is a fair result. I don't think his Oscar should be taken away. Because he wasn't removed immediately, I think it's fair that he not be allowed to attend in any way for 10 years. Attending the Oscars is an important part of being a star--especially if you're nominated.

I think Will Smith will come back. He needs to do more to extend a proper olive branch to Chris Rock. If Rock forgives, he’ll be back sooner rather than later.
There are other avenues for success in the film industry to make money.
The black community is a forgiving community. They will support both Smith and Rock.
I think we haven’t seen the last of Will Smith.
(He may want to figure out his personal life with Jada and other stuff that plagues him)
