Biden rails against access to assault weapons after...

recent increase in shootings!

President Joe Biden said Thursday that he would work with Congress to “try to get rid of assault weapons” after a recent rash of shootings in the US.

“The idea (that) we still allow semiautomatic weapons to be purchased is sick, it’s just sick.

It has no social redeeming value, zero, none. Not a single, solitary rationale for it,” Biden told reporters during a brief meeting outside the Nantucket Fire Department in Massachusetts, where he greeted first responders.

Asked whether he would try to take action on guns, the president said, “I’m going to try. I’m going to try to get rid of assault weapons.”

When pressed on whether he would try to do so during the lame duck session, he said, “I’m going to do it whenever – I’ve got to make that assessment as soon as I get in and start counting the votes.”

Re: Biden rails against access to assault weapons after...

Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut said Senate Democrats don’t have the 60 votes needed to advance an assault weapons ban bill but expressed optimism that something could get done in the next Congress if Democrats keep their seat in Georgia.

“I’m glad that President (Joe) Biden is gonna be pushing us to take a vote on an assault weapons ban,” he said. “The House has already passed it.

It’s sitting in front of the Senate. Does it have 60 votes in the Senate right now? Probably not. But let’s see if we can try to get that number is close to 60 as possible.

If we don’t have the votes, then we’ll talk to [Senate Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer and maybe come back next year, with maybe an additional senator, and see if we can do better.”

President Biden also added...."The idea we still allow semiautomatic weapons to be purchased is sick. It’s just sick.

It has no social redeeming values. Zero. None. Not a single, solitary rationale for it except profit for the gun manufacturer."
