Deadly tornado and severe storms sweep South!
- At least 24 people are dead, dozens are hurt and at least four are missing after powerful storms and at least one tornado pummeled the South Friday night.
- The storms knocked out power for more than 83,000 homes and businesses across Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee, according to PowerOutage.us.
- The confirmed tornado touched down in Mississippi, where the damage and death toll have been most severe. Search-and-rescue teams are spread across the state.
- The greater storm system is headed east, with the threat of damaging winds and isolated tornadoes as it pushes off the East Coast by this evening.

Devastated communities across the American South and Midwest are digging through debris Sunday after ferocious storms and tornadoes, this weekend left at least 27 people dead and leveled neighborhoods, as parts of the Southern Plains brace for the possibility of their own round of severe weather later in the afternoon.
The outbreak that walloped the country Friday spawned more than 50 tornado reports in at least seven states, where tornadoes crushed homes and businesses, ripped roofs off buildings, splintered trees and sent vehicles flying.
Wynne, Arkansas – where at least four people are dead – was cleaved in half by one such tornado, leaving a line of destruction from the city’s western limit to its eastern, according to Mayor Jennifer Hobbs, said on Sunday, “We’re just gonna need all the help that we can (get) to help these families recover.”
