Kevin McCarthy Out as Speaker of the House
The firing of the speaker is the first time in the history of the House.
Kevin McCarthy told Republicans he would not run for speaker again, according to lawmakers who attended a closed-door meeting.
Earlier, Democrats joined with a small group of far-right Republicans to strip Mr. McCarthy of the speaker’s gavel in a 216 to 210 vote.
