First hostages released after Israel-Hamas truce begins
- The first groups of Israelis and Palestinians have been released under a brokered agreement that brought a temporary halt to fighting in Gaza. Israel said it also received a listof a second group to be released by Hamas on Saturday.
- The hostages released Friday from Gaza included 13 Israelis, 10 Thai citizens and 1 Filipino citizen, according to officials. In addition, 39 Palestinian women and children were freed from three Israeli prisons.
- Under the agreement, a total of 50 hostages will be freed over the four-day pause in flighting, while Palestinian prisoners are also due to be released in waves. Aid has begun arriving as part of the truce, with much-needed fuel entering from Egypt.
- Israel's defense minister has vowed to continue the fight "forcefully" after the brief truce, saying he expects at least two more months of battle. Israel heavily bombarded sites in Gaza Thursday.
