Rosalynn Carter, who as first lady worked tirelessly on behalf of mental health reform and professionalized the role of the president’s spouse, died Sunday at the age of 96, according to the Carter Center.
“Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,” her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, said in a statement. “She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.”

Heartbreaking news. This is so sad. Bless her heart and I wish the best for Mr. Carter. They were lovely people.

A private tribute service is scheduled to take place Tuesday at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church at the Emory University campus, with invited guests that include
President Biden and first lady Jill Biden. Vice President Kamala Harris and the second gentleman are also expected to attend.
A private funeral service for family and invited friends is set to take place Wednesday morning at the couple’s beloved Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains.
