No term limits for VP.

thank you fact check orgThere are no official term limits for the office. Article II of the Constitution, which originally gave the terms and conditions that govern the executive branch, did not make any mention of term limits. However, no president pursued more than two terms until Franklin D. Roosevelt did so in 1940. As we discussed in a previous Ask FactCheck, the 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, created guidelines for how long an individual can serve as president, limiting a commander in chief to two full terms, or up to 10 years if a vice president had assumed the presidency and held the top office for less than two years of his or her predecessor’s term. But there are no comparable restraints on the vice presidency. So, in theory, an individual could hold the office as long as he or she wishes. But, in practice, no one has served more than two terms. In fact, most vice presidents have served for less time than that. There have been 46 vice presidents in U.S. history including current office holder Dick Cheney. Only seven have served two complete terms: John Adams, Daniel Tompkins, Thomas Marshall, John Nance Garner, Richard Nixon, George H.W. Bush and Al Gore. Cheney is set to become the eighth member of that select group in January 2009.

BTW, wonder how much was deposited in Uncle Joe's Swiss bank account?
I have to disagree Campbell.
After the last debate, JB knew he couldn't beat Hillary.
It's also late in the game to start a campaign.
I was really surprised by some of the things he said today.
The GOP is not our enemy, when all they did was block Obama every step of the way?
Dick Cheney is a decent man? WOW!

I am listening to his comments right now. I am ok with his decision. I was worried about the votes being split between him and Hillary allowing Sanders to move into the lead. I like Biden but wasn't sure if it was good idea for him to jump in at this point. I think Hillary has a sound lead over everyone and will win the general election.

hey need I am with you ok with his decision, like you said " the voters would have been split"

I don't think so because of the possibility of him becoming Prez. He has already been Prez (and a good one too) so covered by the term limit Amendment.

Probably so. I think they (republicans) were hoping for Bernie to have chance to win the nomination. They know they cannot beat Hillary.

Dolly, that is one of the things I actually like about Biden. He does not see the Republicans as enemies. He sees them as people who view things differently, and would work together toward a workable plan. It is very unfortunate that it has degenerated to the point that both sides see the other as enemies, rather than people who equally care for the country, willing to come to consensus.

Somehow I really don't think that will happen though. Hillary has been hinting at someone else being her running mate. Can't remember his name though.

I am glad JB has decided not to run. It would be a choice I would have a hard time making. I would probably choose Hillary but I like Joe better.

That is kind of where I am at Zeke. I would be really conflicted about which one to vote for in the primaries.

Well, right now I don't feel comfortable voting for any of the candidates in either party because they all suck.....IMHO! I'm still hoping a candidate emerges who I admire, respect, trust and is competent. It would be great if we get a choice of "none of the above" on the ballot so I could still vote and keep my integrity intact.

I understand completely Campbell. I have been there myself.

I can definitely understand that, Campbell.

I guess I was concerned that if Biden jumped into the race many of those who support Hillary right now would jump over to biden. It was just something that was at the back of my mind. The democratic male vote comes readily to mind. I don't think the poll accurately showed how much support he would have. I think it would change if he were officially in the race. I think many people didn't bother selecting him on polls simply because he wasn't an official candidate. I know for myself it would be really hard decision to choose between Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.

I would have preferred Biden. Im bummed.

I really liked Bident, but I do understand it was just too late for him to start running now.
