Thank you all for the warm welcome. It is very much appreciated. My name on here....hhmmm, well, the truth of that matter is that my nickname is Squirrel, and has been since I was 17. My children years later started introducing me to their friends as Mama Squirrel, but when I decided to join this group I just didn't feel like typing that out so I just went with the "Squ" (sku) of it.
Now onto a bit of a funny story, at least to me. How I got the name Squirrel. As a teen, I had a favorite hang out with a bunch of my friends at the local civic center parking lot. Small town mentality for a mid sized city, we just sat around talking and laughing and enjoying each other company most nights. One such evening a fellow I had never met before approached us and for whatever reason, he picked me to start a conversation with, declaring that he knew me from somewhere. (He gave me the willies just looking at him and I knew enough about my gut feelings that if I was getting red flags from this guy, there must be a reason) . I, in response, declared that he was purely mistaken, and that we had never met and he did not know me or anything about me. (My friends looked on in silence ready to guard me if it appeared I needed help)
This guy persisted, "Well then maybe I went to school with one of your brothers or sisters." he said.
"See!" I elated, "You don't know me and that proves it. I have no sisters."
"Well then maybe I know your brothers. What are their names?"
Thinking on my feet as best I could, not wanting to give him any REAL details, I shot out my two brothers' nicknames, " One is Rabbit and the other is Rat."
"Those are both rodents. Staying in the family, what rodent are you then?"
"I must be Squirrel since I've got a fine tail."
All my friends choked up laughing and finally ran the guy off, but from that day forward they all called me Squirrel.
Nothing like hanging myself with an abstract nickname for all the wrong reasons.
Ok...... Now I will think of that story whenever I see your name. Again, welcome.
