That is what I was thinking shiny. The money comes from the foreign aid fund. Let Girls Learn is an initiative spearheaded by Michelle Obama though not by our government. Our government pledged 70 million to the intiative and the money that Pakistan gets will come from that fund that has now accumulated over 800 million from 4 different countries so far.
Thanks for including this information.
"Some" were implying that Michelle took it upon herself to pledge $70 mil to Pakistan, which of course is a lie.
Will they ever stop bashing?
Dolly, didn't you say it was reported initially stating this was Michelle pledging the money and the White House had to correct it? So who was implying, the media?

I made that statement with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
Actually, the insinuation and false claim that Michelle took it upon herself to pledge the money came from the VSB.

A little time spent researching the topic goes a long way.

Are you saying the White House had to come out and correct the VSB?

Thank you for the laugh this morning that was quite refreshing. Much appreciated.

The propaganda that some spew is so ridiculous. Even in first grade I knew who held the purse strings and it isn't the First Lady.

No, the part about the WH correcting the story was a joke.
Much like the claim that Michelle has the authority to give away millions of taxpayers dollars and took it upon herself to do, which the the VSB gang of 7 or 8 expected us to believe.
Sort of a "quid pro quo" if you will.

In my house it's the First Lady that holds the purse strings.

Having lived in Sowela, for almost 40 years, I can tell you an abundance about Cajun living. That being said, there is a favorite creature here called a crawfish. Have you ever seen a crawfish in real life, alive in water and busily doing what crawfish do? Crawfish are little freshwater lobsters, with eight legs, two pinchers and one hellafied tail muscle. Of all the different ways that a crawfish could go when confronted by an adversary the crawfish will back the "f" up rather than stand their ground.
From what I've read of this thread, ( all 6 pages of it)......Dolly you are the crawfish king.

Was that meant as a compliment?

How you take it is strictly up to you. How it was meant is simply the truth. If you like the truth, great, but if you don't like the truth, it is up to you to change it.

Sorry, but allegory isn't my strong suit.
As someone not known for backing away from a fight, I offer this poem.
It's easy to cry that you're beaten -- and die;
It's easy to crawfish and crawl;
But to fight and to fight when hope's out of sight
-- Why, that's the best game of them all!
And though you come out of each gruelling bout,
All broken and beaten and scarred,
Just have one more try -- it's dead easy to die,
It's the keeping-on-living that's hard.

I have to say, I've never ever seen Dolly run away from a discussion or a "fight". That would be the last comparison I would make but jmo.

America will give $70 million in aid to Pakistan to provide adequate education and health care for some 200,000 adolescent girls in the country, first lady Michelle Obama has announced.
"Building on Pakistan's commitment to double education spending, the US will be investing $70 million to educate adolescent girls in Pakistan," Michelle said at a WH event she hosted for Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's wife, on Thursday.
Earlier reports stated the FLOTUS took it upon herself to pledged the money to Pakistan.
The WH corrected those reports in a statement confirming that the first lady has no authority to pledge money on the American peoples' behalf. She was simply making an announcement of the pledge at what was considered an appropriate time, an event held in honor of the Pakistani Prime Minister's wife Kalsoom Nawaz.
Let me get this straight so that there is no confusion on either of our parts: The above post is your original statement. You later said that it is "tongue in cheek", correct? Isn't that another phrase for "you were joking"? If this thread was meant to be a joke, I would have thought you would have posted it in the Jokes forum, but since you posted it in General Discussion, I would have rather thought that there might have been something to this post. That possibly it was some variation of a news article. What I have witnessed in this thread is that Dolly has backed up a tad more often than I would have expected. Just my opinion, so it doesn't really matter one way or the other, right? It's not like I pay his bills, he can post however wants to. At things being relevant, the best part of America, is that I get to post my opinion too....gotta love it.

I was just reading that this whole initiative was inspired by Malala Yousafzai, the young Pakistani girl who was shot in the head by extremists who wanted to prevent girls from going to school. That girl has made such a huge difference in the world for such a young age. Truly inspiring.

Sorry Ma, but I still don't get what you mean by backing off.
Let me explain where I was coming from with my original post.
There was a thread posted on the VSB insinuating that MO, on her own volition, pledged $70 mil of US tax dollars to Pakistan.
That was a lie.
She announced the pledge of US dollars, but she had nothing to do with the decision, except to support it.
Since it was a lie, I countered with a lie.
No, there was no announcement by the WH, just as there was no giving away money to Pakistan on Michelle's orders.
(There's the quid pro quo.)
I did not post in the joke thread, because it was more about calling out MO haters than a joke.
BTW, Since you're new on this board, at least to me, I would like to know where you ever got the idea I back away from a fight?

Thanks Need and Shiny for the clarification about the funding. I didn't think Michelle Obama would mispeak like that. It all makes sense.
