The Saddest Story Ever Told

A wife and her hubby (I love that term, hubby) were having a political discussion, when the little woman (love that one too) decides to check out the Plan B Message Board ( which she hardly, almost never, ever does, cross her heart) and espies a post that made her very, very, very sad (even sadder than she was the year a drought wiped out the entire sunflower seed crop she was so looking forward to enjoying).

I know what your thinking. What could possibly have made someone that sad?

It started out innocently enough. The little woman mentions how some people on "the other board" constantly malign FOX news for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Hubby calls them out for being a bunch of crazy nuts.

A model of fairness, the little woman rushes to their defense, making every possible effort to understand their point of view, when the unspeakable happens.

The LW reads another post that asks whether or not a person's addiction to FOX (and believing everything they say)  could possibly be physiological. The poster cited a situation with a family member who was a staunch liberal before developing Alzheimer's and then became addicted to FOX news and is now an arch conservative who hates Obama.

After picking her jaw up off the floor, the "fairest woman in message board land" decided that her only alternative was to start a bait thread to avenge FOX's good name and call out vile liberals as the scum they are.

Now for the saddest part......

As with all things Republican, the bait thread backfired.

Not only did no one bite, the poor thing got screamed at and scolded as if she were a child.

Recalling a past situation when others were allowed to express their shock and disgust over comments made by a now banned poster, she asks her accusers:

"Why can't you give me the same courtesy? The courtesy and respect I'm entitled to".

Receiving no answer, she returned to clearing her closet of wire hangers.

Re: The Saddest Story Ever Told

Last time I checked, the median age for a Fox News viewer is 68 years old. That is the segment of society which is most vulnerable to Alzheimer's and dementia.  Coincidence?

This is just like Karl Rove innocently mentioning that Hillary might have brain damage. And we all remember the outcry from the right about something so cruel...oh wait.

So that's it. They're all nuts. Oh, no. How un-PC of me. I'm going to catch hell for that.

My husband has a relative that watched Fox every day, every time we'd talk to her it was "Obama's taking away my medicare, Obama this, Obama that, she's now in a "hospital" and refuses to eat because everyone's trying to poison her.  Not to make light of the situation, but Fox can literally drive you over the edge if that's all you listen to every day, we've seen it first hand.  They push this "the world's coming to an end crap" day in and day out.

Fox News relies heavily on people's fears, as does the GOP. They need to keep people fearful of immigrants, gay people, non-Christians, poor people, etc. in order to keep up the loyal following of people who believe that only Fox is telling them the truth. No one else can be trusted. They're coming for your guns and bibles!

Many dementia patients have irrational fears and believe everyone who doesn't look/sound/believe like they do is the enemy.

Not too hard to see how those two things often go hand in hand and feed eachother.
